Description
The source of the Kolva River originates on the southeastern side of the Kolvinskaya mountain (Kolvinsky stone). Which is located near the borders of the Komi Republic. Basically, the river flows through sparsely populated and wild places. As mentioned earlier, it is 460 km long and has a basin area of 13,500 km2.
The main direction of the river is southwest, and the average slope is 0.3 m per 1 km. The largest tributaries of the Kolva River are the Visherka and Berezovaya. However, in addition to them, there are 37 more. There are several rocks along the river, the most famous of them are Vetlan, Fighter and Diviy. In the same places there is the Divya cave, which is the longest in the entire Urals. Gener althe length of its entrances is more than 11 km, and inside it there are dozens of grottoes and lakes.
History
The Colva River was of great importance in the history of this region. Here is the city of Cherdyn, which at one time was the capital of this region. From the Komi-Permyak language, Cherdyn is translated as "a settlement near the mouth", meaning the mouth of the river. Several ancient settlements (hillforts) have been discovered along the banks of the Kolva. Local residents tell a legend that great peoples called Chud people lived in the settlements near the river.
Scientists have proved that merchants traded with the Eastern states in these settlements. Archaeologists at different times found coins from the East and household items that were produced in Asia. Trade was carried out using the navigable route along the Kolva River.
Fishing
On the Kolva River, fishing will delight lovers of trophy hunting. Here all year round in various parts of the riverbed you can meet connoisseurs of fishing. Some linguists adhere to the version that the name of the river in one of the local dialects is translated as "fish river". Like it or not, it is not known for certain, but it is safe to say that fishing on this river brings a rich and varied catch.
There is a fish here like:
- ruff;
- asp;
- dace;
- starlet;
- suspend;
- chekhon;
- ide;
- bream;
- burbot;
- perch;
- grayling;
- taimen.
Taimen, grayling and sterlet are considered a valuable trophy for locals and visitors (and there are many of them here). Fish are caught from the shore, as well as by boating into open water. Quite often you can see how fishermen cook a real fish soup from their fresh catch right on the shore. It is boiled on a fire from three types of fish - it is always sterlet, and then taimen or grayling. Other types of fish can also be used in cooking, but sterlet is always present.
Geography and hydrography
The Kolva River in the Perm Territory has very winding banks that are covered with forests and meadows. The river bed in the upper reaches is mostly rocky, and sandy areas are often found below. In the upper reaches, the width of the river reaches from 8 to 10 m, on average it ranges from 18 to 20 m, and in the lower reaches it reaches 75 m.
The water in the river is clear, but there are also cloudy areas. This is due to the fact that at one time the river was used for mole rafting (rafting of logs downstream). During transportation, some trees were saturated with water and drowned. Over the many years of such rafting, a large number of trees sank, thereby reducing the transparency of the water in some places.
During accidents on oil pipelines, water was extremely polluted, however, after absorbing the leakage products and after some time, its purity was restored. During the rise of water after the ice melts in spring, river navigation resumes along the Kolva River.
Rest by the riverbed
To the places where the Colva flows, despite their sparsely populated and virginwildness, seeks a large number of tourists who prefer different types of recreation. Naturally, the fishermen mentioned earlier come here, but you can meet not only them here.
Rafting is quite a popular type of extreme recreation in these places. This is rafting on kayaks - both single and double, as well as on special rubber boats for rafting, designed for 6-8 people. In some parts of the river there is a large amount of shallow water and rapids, which attracts rafting enthusiasts here.
You can also meet climbers in these places, despite the fact that there are not as many rocks here as next to other Ural rivers. One of the most favorite peaks among climbers is Vetlan. This rock is excellent for various types of climbing.
In addition, hiking tourism is currently developing. Local hikers organize hiking trips for everyone. Groups are recruited and set off on a hike along the banks of the Kolva River. In some places, rafting is provided, somewhere climbing the mountain, however, most of the time you have to walk, periodically stopping for the night and fishing.
Jipping and ethnotourism
Jeepping is one of the relatively new types of entertainment and recreation for tourists. It is a kind of cross-country rally, on off-road vehicles (jeeps). Especially many connoisseurs of such a holiday can be found here in the spring, after the melting of ice and snow. River in some placesoverflows its banks, flooding the forests and making the terrain difficult to pass. This is exactly what jeepers who come here in large groups need, these are mechanics with equipment for repairing damaged cars, navigators and just spectators.
Also gaining weight and the number of fans of ethnotourism. As described earlier, along the banks of the Kolva River there are the remains of old settlements, which attract lovers of history and ethnography here. In some places it seems as if history stopped in the 16th and 17th century. There are sites where you can use the services of a guide who will not only show the preserved buildings, books and utensils of those times, but also tell the history of the peoples who inhabited these lands.
Vishera tributary
Considering the question of where the Kolva River flows, we should talk about the Vishera River. This water body is the fifth longest in the Perm region. The Kolva flows into the Vishera, and the latter, in turn, flows straight into the Kama River. The Vishera, like the Colva, is a very picturesque river, along its length you can find various sections - both with a quiet and calm surface, and with sharp rapids and raging rifts.
This river is rich not only in the quantity of fish, but also in its diversity. There are a lot of fishermen and tourism enthusiasts here. The banks of the Vishera are picturesque landscapes, mostly untouched by man and retaining their natural beauty.
Conclusion
The Colva River is a beautiful place that has a large hydrologicaland geographical importance for the region. She feeds Vishera and Kama with her waters, purifying and filling them. Also, in some places where there is shipping, there is also economic significance.
Magnificent beauties that have been preserved since ancient times show a person all the uniqueness of these places that need to be protected, not destroyed, using unreasonably everything that nature gives.
In addition, it is important to remember that the Kolva River is also part of one biospheric system, which is connected not only with other water bodies interacting with it, but also with the rest of the surrounding world.
