The article provides information about the Kazyr River in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Its name comes from the Turkic “Ka-Izyr”, which translates as “river of the Isers”, who are the ancestors of the Khakass (a tribe of the Yenisei Kirghiz). In the summer, tourists and locals arrange kayaking, catamarans and rafting on this turbulent river. The length of the rafting section is almost 300 kilometers.

Geography and climate

This wonderful river flows through the territory of Southern Siberia, namely the Irkutsk region of the Krasnoyarsk Territory (Karatuzsky district). Sourceis located on the slopes of Mount Taskin, in the spurs of the Eastern Sayan mountain range. Most of its path runs through the valleys between the hills. After confluence with the right tributary - the Kizir River, the riverbed expands. In the lower part it is divided into ducts. At the Minusinsk basin, the Kazyr joins with the Amyl, forming a new river called the Tuba, which then flows through the basin and after 119 kilometers becomes the right tributary of the Yenisei. The Kazyr is the largest tributary of the Tuba in terms of length and basin area. The main and largest tributaries of the Kazyr River are the Kizir and Mozharka (Tagosuk).

In the upper reaches the river is mountainous, with many rapids and waterfalls. Among them are Bazybaysky, Gulyaevsky, Cheki, Verkhnekitatsky, Tabratsky, Ubinsky. Below the confluence of the Kizir River, the valley expands, the channel becomes more branched.

Climatic conditions of the pool - moderately warm, with high humidity. Winter here is little snowy and quite severe.

Features

The length of the reservoir is approximately 388 kilometers. The total area of the basin is approximately 21 thousand square kilometers. The slope of the channel averages 2.2 meters. The main food is rain and snow. The speed of the river flow is on average 1 meter per second. As a rule, the period of freezing of the river is from the beginning of November to the end of April.

Kazyr, for obvious reasons, is not navigable. A lot of thresholds along almost the entire length is a significant obstacle even for shallow draft vessels. In addition, in some seasons there is a stronga decrease in the water level in the river.

The vegetation of the banks of Kazyr is represented by larch, birch, spruce and cedar.

Hydrology

Water discharge (long-term average) in the lower reaches of the Kazyr River is 308 cubic meters per second. Corresponds to the water regime of the East Siberian type. It is characterized by a well-defined spring flood and relatively high summer floods. The main part of the runoff occurs during floods (approximately 65% of the total annual runoff). The maximum water flow is 3430 cubic meters per second. The most full-flowing month in the upper reaches is May. In the lower and middle - June. During the flood period, high (but not exceeding 6 meters) rises in the water level are characteristic. The runoff of the winter season is insignificant and does not exceed 15% of the annual.

Fullthe river freezes in mid-November. During the opening of the river, the duration of the ice drift is up to 8 days.

In closing

The river flows through a very beautiful taiga, forming picturesque gorges and wonderful sandy beaches. There are no settlements on the banks of the Kazyr River, with the exception of a few small villages. However, in recent years, lovers of extreme travel quite often come to this rapids reservoir to make rafting on it on a variety of swimming facilities.
