Playing career: beginning

Alain Giresse was born on August 2, 1952, in Languaran, a small French commune with a population of less than two thousand people.

Football he was fond of since childhood, and his path to professional success began with the Bordeaux club. He became part of the team from the city of the same name in 1970. Then Bordeaux was going through hard times. The club competed for a place in Ligue 1 every season. But in the 80s things got better. Then Aime Jacquet took the club under his coaching leadership, who headed it until 1989. It was then that the team began a period of great achievements. By the way, many of them were achieved thanks to Alain Giresse. No wonder he is the best scorer of Bordeaux in the entire history of the club. He scored 179 goals.

By the way, together with "Bordeaux" Alain won the Cup of the Alps, "bronze" at the French Championship in 1981, "silver" in 1983, "gold" - in 1984 and 1985,and also won the French Cup in 1986.

In the national team

Alain Giresse is also known for his performances for the national team. His international debut took place in 1974. It was a game against Poland. At first, Alain occasionally appeared on the field, but then, when the team was taken under the leadership of Michel Hidalgo, he took a strong place in the base. Moreover, Alain Giresse became one of the key figures in the team. His career took off.

The fact is that Michel formed the so-called "magic square" in the center of the field. And it included the best players in the team. The top four included Giresse, Luis Fernandez, Jean Tigan and Michel Platini. It was thanks to this powerful combination that the team took fourth place at the 1982 World Cup, and third at the 1986 World Cup. But most importantly, they managed to win the European Championship.

Giresse played his last match on June 25, 1986. Then France played against Germany and, following the results of the match, lost to the German team. But in 11 years of playing for the national team, the midfielder chalked up 46 meetings and 6 goals.

And Alain Giresse decided to continue his club career. His biography is quite rich, and in his last two "playing" years, he managed to chalk up three titles to his account. By the way, he spent 2 seasons in Marseille. With this team, Alain won silver at the French Championship and the Cup of the country, and also became the semi-finalist of the Cup Winners' Cup.

Coaching

Seven years after the end of Alain's careerGiresse took charge of FC Toulouse. It happened in 1995. For two years he led a team from the city of the same name, after which he was invited to Paris Saint-Germain. However, three months after the conclusion of the contract, he was fired, as PSG lost to Maccabi in the Cup Winners' Cup. And in general, the beginning of the season was extremely unsuccessful. So Alain had to return to Toulouse. But not for long - for 9 months.

Then, since 2001, the Frenchman led a Moroccan football club from Rabat called FAR (Forces Armées Royales). But Alain led this team to success. After all, it was under his leadership that FAR won the Throne Cup in the 2002/03 season.

Then the Frenchman was invited to lead the Georgian national team. He agreed, but, without leading the team to any success before qualifying for the European Championship, he decided to leave the country, terminating the contract. So then for four years Giresse coached the Gabon national team.

Recent years

Alain Giresse is a wonderful football player who is still an important person in France. In 2007 he was awarded the Legion of Honor. More precisely, then he was awarded the title. And the ceremony took place only five years later, in 2012. The former midfielder was awarded the order by Platini, with whom they once defended the colors of the Bordeaux team. Michel has been a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor since 1985, and an officer since 1998, so he is allowed this right as a senior in rank. By the way, the ceremony was not quite ordinary. The training base of FC was chosen as the venue for it. Bordeaux.

And finally, a few words about what Alain Giresse has been doing in recent years. From 2010 to 2012, he coached the Mali national team. Then for two more years he was the head of the national team of Senegal. After that, he again coached the Mali national team for a year. And now, starting in 2016, Alain leads the national team of Cameroon. The Frenchman is not going to end his coaching career, so all that remains is to follow his progress and the achievements of the team led by him.
