The Museum of the History of the City of Yaroslavl is very young, compared to other similar complexes, in 2015 it celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. But, despite this, it has a rich exposition and is in demand among both citizens and visitors.
How this museum was created
This complex began its existence in 1985 as a branch of the regional architectural and historical museum reserve, but in 1998 acquired the status of a municipal institution. It was then that his new life began. In less than a year, a complete restoration of the building was carried out, all internal premises were repaired, and in May 1999 the complex opened its doors to visitors again.
The Historical Museum itself (Yaroslavl), whose photo is in the article, is located in the former estate of the merchant of the first guild Vasily Kuznetsov, an honorary citizen of the city.
After the October Revolution of 1917, the House of Mother and Child settled here, since 1947 the estate was transferred to the eye and surgical department of the First City Hospital, and since 1985 the museum of history has been housed in a two-story buildingcity of Yaroslavl.
Exhibitions and expositions
The main concept of the museum is the person himself as a person, his place in the history of the city is shown, and much attention is also paid to the influence of Yaroslavl itself on the history of Russia.
Halls one through six are dedicated to the events of the city from the date of its foundation to the present. All exhibits are presented in strict chronological order, which makes it possible to trace the chain of events from the beginning and catch the dependence and influence of one episode on the formation of the entire historical picture.
In addition, the complex has halls dedicated to:
- outstanding contemporary townspeople;
- the international relations of the city, its friendship and cooperation with other countries - Great Britain, the United States, Finland, France, Portugal, Germany;
- great labor achievements of Yaroslavl;
- the achievements of local medicine (this room has been open since 2012).
There is also an art gallery in the museum, where the works of artists are exhibited, reflecting the way they see their native Yaroslavl. Photos of the canvases are also collected in a separate album with views of the city. This collection is constantly updated with paintings and drawings by young talented artists.
