There are many interesting places in Moscow that can be considered attractions no less than the lanes of the old Arbat or Red Square. For example, cemeteries. For a long time already from the objects of ritual burials they turned into islands of culture and history. One of them is located in the Western District, the administrative center is located on Ozernaya Street, along Borovskoye Highway.
History
Those who know Moscow well probably guessed that we are talking about the Vostryakovskoe cemetery. He has his own, special, so to speak, biography. Once, not far from Moscow, there was the village of Vostryakovo. Gradually it became a suburb, and then entered the city. The Vostryakovskoye cemetery itself began to function in the early 1930s. In the 60s, it was already assigned to the Moscow city administration. Naturally, the boundaries of the necropolis had to be moved apart. He reached the Moscow Ring Road. The territory of burials is divided into two large sections: Central (large) and Northern(smaller).
The current Vostryakovskoye cemetery is adjacent to the places where the now liquidated Dragomilovskoye, whose second name is Jewish, stood nearby. Most of the reburials fell on the Vostryakovsky site. Since then, the necropolis has been considered Jewish. After all, it was there that the Chief Rabbi of Moscow of the late 19th and first quarter of the 20th century, Ya. I. Maze, found his last refuge. And not only him! A large number of truly legendary personalities sheltered the Vostryakovskoye cemetery. For example, few people know that the famous Ostap Ibragim Bender, the main character of "12 Chairs" and "The Golden Calf", had a real prototype - Osip Benyaminovich Shor. He is also buried here.
Legends of the past
If you walk along the alleys of the necropolis, read the inscriptions on the monuments, then you will face the biography of the country, its ups and downs. After all, the Vostryakovskoye cemetery in Moscow is the very place where the grave of the great academician Sakharov and his wife, an associate doctor, human rights activist and fighter for human freedom and dignity, is located.
A mass grave with 1200 remains of Soviet soldiers and officers who died from wounds in Moscow hospitals became a harsh and courageous memory of the Great Patriotic War. People bring flowers and wreaths to the monument erected in their honor. 32 heroes of the Soviet Union, who also won the Victory for us, and the Full Cavalier of the Order of Glory are buried here.
Wolf Messing and Yuri Longo, the famous female lawyer Kallistratova and intelligence officer Sizov, who brought a hugebenefit the country with their undercover activities - thanks to these people, the Vostryakovskoye cemetery is known far beyond the borders of Moscow. Its monuments - solemn, mournful, strict in their sad beauty, attract the eyes of visitors, causing respect and gratitude to those who lie under them. And these are not only heroes of the war, but also of Soviet sports. Honored masters of hockey and football, chess and weightlifting, world and Olympic champions - those who, with their hard work, won the prestige of the USSR on the world stage.
And, of course, one cannot but say about actors, singers, stage masters, bards, writers and poets - the cultural elite of society. There are also quite a few of them under Vostryakov's tombstones. Brilliant names and surnames, brilliant, sometimes tragic destinies. But in general - a great history of a great country.
Modern Services
The cemetery is still functioning. It carries out burials in family plots and singles. Funeral services and other services are held in the temple and the House of Ritual Services located on the territory of the necropolis. The list of services of the administration and staff includes the manufacture and installation of tombstones, monuments, fences, development of sketches, artwork, production of plates with inscriptions and much more.
