Tishinskaya Square is one of the interesting historical districts of Moscow. The square has been known by this name since the 18th century. This area on the then outskirts of Moscow was called "Tishina". This, of course, does not mean that there was no noise. Silence (in this case) is a synonym for a quiet life. Since ancient times, hay has been sold in this area, and for some time it was called "Tishinskaya-Sennaya". In the 19th century, the Tishinsky market was organized on the square. Tishinskaya Square has become one of the favorite places of Muscovites.

Tishinsky market

The territory of the market was a triangle, in one of the vertices of which there was a tavern "Georgia", one side was limited by the Garden, the other - by the Zoological Garden. On the third side in the 19th century there were gardens of coachmen. Soon the market became one of the most famous trading places in Moscow and existed for more than a century.

The Tishinsky market was used to film footage from Gaidai's famous film "Operation Y". In the late 80s and early 90s, the Tishinsky market turned into a real flea market, where you could buy anything. There were foodstuffs and things worthy of the homeless, and quite normal clothes at the ruins. You could also find antiques. In the early nineties, the market was liquidated, and the Tishinsky shopping center was built in its place.

Butchers lived on Staraya Zhivoderka, where they butchered meat carcasses. There was a mansion of the poet Pyotr Vyazemsky, a friend of Pushkin. Pushkin visited him. In 1931, the street was renamed in honor of the prominent Bolshevik Leonid Krasin. Krasin was engaged in providing the search for finance for the revolution and organized covert operations. Also on st. Krasin, there is a department of the VILAR center, which is engaged in the preservation of the body of V. I. Lenin, constantly monitors his parameters.

Gilyarovsky in his book "Moscow and Muscovites" wrote that there was a "Dog Hall" on Zhivoderka. That was the name of the rooming house where literary blacks lived. For little money, and sometimes just for a glass of vodka, they wrote texts for writers and journalists.

There is a legend that Sokolovsky lane was named after Pyotr Sokolov, leader of the famous gypsy Sokolov choir, who performed at the YaR restaurant near Tverskaya Zastava and was famous throughout Moscow. Gilyarovsky writes that gypsies, artists of the choir lived in the alley. But this is hardlywhether so. The lane bears the name of the owner of the collegiate land - Assessor Sokolova.

Friendship forever

This is the name of the 35-meter monument erected in the center of the square, dedicated to the bicentenary of the signing of the Treaty of Georgievsk on friendship between Russia and Georgia. This is a stele in the interweaving of the letters of the Georgian alphabet, the Aramaic and Slavic alphabets, which form the words "peace", "labor", "unity", and poems dedicated to the friendship of Georgia and Russia. The monument is crowned with two rings, recalling the union of the Russian poet and diplomat A. S. Griboyedov and the Georgian princess Nina Chavchavadze. Interestingly, this is the first monument in Moscow, the author of which was Zurab Tseretelli. The architect of the monument was the famous poet Andrei Voznesensky.
