Lyublinskoye cemetery - one of the oldest necropolises in Moscow

Lublinskoe cemetery was closed for mass graves during the Soviet era. Today it exists as a memorial and its gates are open daily for visitors who want to pay tribute to the memory of their relatives and friends. However, this necropolis is one of the oldest in the capital. What is its history, and what is the condition of the ancient cemetery today?

History of the Necropolis

The Lublin cemetery was founded in 1635. It got its name from the nearest estate and the village of Lyublino (since the 18th century, earlier - Godunovo). Initially, it was a typical rural churchyard where peasants were buried. From the beginning of the 18th century, we althy and noble families began to build summer residences and summer residences in Lublino. Over time, the boundaries of Moscow also changed, and very soon residents of the nearest residential districts began to be buried at the Lublin cemetery. Since 1939, the official archive of burials has been maintained, in 1960 the necropolis was included in the list of Moscow ones, and a little later it was closed and given the status of a memorial.

Today, this necropolis is part of the South-Eastern administrative district of Moscow. The territory of the cemetery is about 19 hectares. On the territory of the cemetery there is a mass grave of soldiers who died during the Second World War, recently aalso a monument to the defenders of the Motherland. Lublinsky cemetery is located at Stavropolskaya street, 74a. It works daily from 9.00 to 19.00 in the summer season and from 9.00 to 17.00 in the winter. It is not difficult to get here by personal and public transport. Buses No. 54, 228 run from the Tekstilshchiki metro station, and No. 54 and 242 from Lyublino. You can also take route No. 242 from the Volzhskaya metro station. On the days of church holidays, additional public transport trips to the necropolis and back are organized. If your goal is the Lublin Cemetery, it is also easy to remember how to get to it by private car. If you are driving along the Moscow Ring Road, you must turn off the inner lane at the 13th kilometer. Next, continue along Verkhnie Pole Street, then turn right onto Maryinsky Park Street, then left onto Krasnodarskaya Street, and the last turn left again - Tikhoretsky Boulevard, very soon you will drive up to the central entrance to the necropolis.
