You must have heard the word freak. You may even have met them on the streets. They cannot be overlooked. They grab attention wherever they go. So who are they?
Freak is a collective definition for people who use their appearance as a means of self-expression and at the same time are not included in any of the already existing subcultures. They create fundamentally new images, without being afraid to seem ridiculous or ugly. No wonder the very word 'freak' is translated from English as "freak". Freak is a person often prone to exaggeration. He has no sense of proportion. If you pierce - so the whole face, if you paint - then so that your own mother does not recognize.
The freak subculture has no specific philosophy. And aesthetics too. These are just people who seek to distinguish themselves from the gray mass with the help of visual means. Of course, each of them has their own philosophy and beliefs that led to such an extravagant exit. But they rarely team up with their own kind, and as a result, you are unlikely to ever meet two identical freaks.
Freaks don't have any common and required attributes. Typically, each of themchooses for himself any style that he follows. Contrary to popular belief, piercings and tattoos are also not the attributes of freaks (remember the same Marilyn Manson). But most often they still contain some kind of body modification (from dyed hair to subcutaneous implants). It depends on the individual philosophy of the person. After all, a freak is, first of all, a person who defies public opinion and changes his appearance in accordance with his worldview.
Freaks can be found everywhere. But, as a rule, most of them are in developed post-industrial countries.
Japanese freaks are especially famous, who can easily shock an unaccustomed viewer with their appearance. It is understandable, because the visual culture in Japan has reached a high level. In this country, self-expression by changing one's appearance is common and is perceived as normal. In our country, people are not yet accustomed to such "antics", so many people consider freaks "wild" and "crazy". Such a lack of tolerance must be explained by the echoes of Soviet culture, when universal equality was taken as an ideal, and those who stood out in appearance were not welcomed. And in Europe, meanwhile, the culture of freaks is flourishing, finding more and more new means of expression.
Freaks tend to be non-aggressive towards others unless pressured by them. These are people who have found harmony within themselves, even if in a slightly strange way. Sothe notion that freaks are dangerous is unjustified. They assert themselves not through violence against others, but through their appearance, therefore they treat people peacefully.
Frick is, in general, the same person as everyone else, only he has chosen a different way of expression. If others make themselves known by creating something new, communicating with others, or just actively doing what they love, then freaks do it by standing out.
