Qatar is a little-known country in the vastness of our homeland. Even fewer people know that this state is in the lead in the ranking of per capita income. The we alth of the Qataris exceeds most of the other Arabian countries sitting on oil. Over the past few years, interest in this country has increased several times, especially in the field of tourism.
A trip to history
The rapid growth of the country's welfare began in the 80s of the last century. Until that time, Qatar was a simple and poor English colony, producing mainly pearls. The population consisted mainly of fishermen and Bedouins leading a nomadic lifestyle. Everything changed when oil and gas were found in the bowels of the peninsula. True, the greed of the Sultan of the ruling dynasty impeded the development of the state until the 90s of the 20th century, until he was overthrown from the throne in 1995 with the help of a peaceful coup.
From this moment, a new page in its history opens the state of Qatar. The population began to grow, and local residents from the poor andbeggars turned into we althy Muslims. Today, native Qataris practically do not work. The money received from the state is enough to provide for all needs and desires, without the need to work. And all services are provided to the indigenous population by emigrants from poor Muslim countries.
Demographics
Thousands of expats visit Qatar every year. The population (number) began to increase sharply since 1970, with every decade the number of inhabitants on a small peninsula has doubled. More accurate data is shown in the following figure:
Track how the dynamics of population growth has changed over the past 14 years, the following table will help:

Forecast data
Scientists have calculated that if emigrants continue to come to the peninsula in the same number, then there will be more residents in the following ratio:
Already by 2020, overpopulation and approaching the mark of 3 million people may be observed.
Of course, this number of people is only a forecast. In the country, one can very clearly trace the seasonality in the arrival of labor migrants. During this period, the population of Qatar is about 3 million people. This is especially true of the tourist season, which lasts here from November to May.
You can also project future numbers based on birth and death data. The population growth rate for 2015 was 1.093%. According to statistics, on average, the death rate remains at 4.45% per year, and the birth rate - 16.6%, which indicates a positive trend.
National composition
It can be said that one of the most dynamically developing countries in the Middle East is Qatar. The population (number) largely depends on the national composition. As statistics show, there are not so many indigenous people here. According to 2014 data, a total of 2 million 240 thousand people lived in the country. Of these, only 13% are Qataris. The approximate number of adults and children is 291 thousand people. All the rest are visitorsmigrants.
People from India, Nepal, Philippines come here to earn money and send it home. The country's economy also suffers from this. If all resources were directed to development within the state, it could be even better.
As for the national composition of migrants, the places, as of 2014, were distributed as follows:
- Indians - 545 thousand people
- Nepalese - 341 thousand people
- Filipinos - 185 thousand people.
- Bangladeshis - 137 thousand people.
- Sri Lankans - 100 thousand people.
- Pakistani - 90 thousand people.
- Other nationalities - 50 thousand people.
Sex ratio
We propose to consider the following diagram. It shows the sex ratio as of 2014 in different age categories. Men are in blue, women are in red.
As can be seen from the figure, the country is dominated by the male population. This is not surprising, because almost all labor migrants are representatives of the strong half. They earn money and send it to their families in other countries. Only a few managed to earn enough to transport their wives and children to Qatar. Do not forget that the standard of living here is quite high, and the prices are appropriate.
The largest number of men aged 25 to 40.
Standard of living
As you know, Qatar is a very rich country. The standard of living of the population here is the highest in the world. This indicator is usually estimated using GDP per capita. BehindThe last 20-30 years in Qatar, GDP per capita has just skyrocketed.
In 2015, each inhabitant of the country accounted for 91,000 dollars. Of course, the prices here correspond to salaries. I would like to note that only indigenous people receive state subsidies, while all the rest are forced to be content with their hard-earned money. So, for example, Indian builders receive 2-3.5 thousand dollars a year.
Prices in Qatar
When compared with Russia, the cost of living in this Arab country is 83.82% higher than ours. An average lunch in a restaurant for two will cost about $30, a one-way ticket on public transport - $5, a basic set of utilities - almost $300.
The people of Qatar spend the majority of their money paying monthly rent for utilities and housing. 21, 1% of the money is spent on various purchases in stores, and often these are rather expensive gifts, since clothing for Muslims is of little value and even women spend negligibly little on it. Entertainment, sports and restaurants are another half of the monthly income. By the way, the Qataris are not too zealous and always dine out, in cafes and restaurants. More clearly information about the monthly expenses of a native of Qatar is shown in the figure:
Conclusion
Qatar (its population) has a very dynamic positive trend. This eastern country is developing at a staggering pace, ahead of the leaders of the world community. Not surprising, that many dream of moving there. But there is no bright future for migrants behind the golden gates. Therefore, you always need to be able to adequately and rationally assess your own chances, intending to leave for another country for a better life.
