The newest metro in the Russian Federation, as well as the shortest (currently operating) in the world, is located in Kazan. Metro stations (Kazan) are decorated in different styles, each of them was developed separately.
Opening of the subway
The Kazan metro was opened on August 27, 2005. This event was timed to coincide with the city's millennial anniversary. And it became a kind of gift for the townspeople. Initially, the metro had only five stations, but by 2013 its line connected the northern district of Kazan - Aviastroitelny - with the southern - Privolzhsky.
How many metro stations are there in Kazan today? Now the subway has ten stations. Metro stations (Kazan) connect the south of the city (Azino microdistrict) with industrial areas. Trains run every five minutes. The subway itself is open from 6 am to 11 pm. According to statistics, it transports up to 120,000 citizens of Kazan daily.
The emergence of an idea
Residents of Russian megacities sometimes laugh when they find out that the subway in the capital of Tatarstan has only ten stations. And the touristsvisiting the city are delighted with a short but interesting trip.
Approximately fifteen years ago, the people of Kazan themselves laughed at the idea of the mayor to build a subway. But as soon as the first train got on the underground rails, the townspeople could feel the benefits of this type of transport. The first branch connected the far part of Kazan with the center, and all five stations could be reached in just eleven minutes.
After some time, five more were added, connecting the two distant outskirts of the capital of Tatarstan. Today, the travel time from one end to the other is only twenty minutes. If you go by bus, the journey will take an hour and a half.
What attracts tourists? Unique design of each station. Both architects and historians painstakingly worked on it. Tons of dusty archives were raised to name stations with meaning.
For example, the station "Sukonnaya Sloboda" is located at the place where the manufactories producing linen used to be. And Kozya Sloboda, which raises questions and jokes about its name, is located on the spot where livestock grazed a hundred years ago. Including goats. Now let's describe the metro stations themselves. Kazan can rightfully be proud of its metro.
Station "Prospect Pobedy"
Here the name speaks for itself. The theme of the victory over the Nazis is used in the interior. The walls and columns are lined with white marble. The names of the hero cities of our country are painted on the walls, and the chandeliers symbolize the salute that took place on May 9, 1945.
Next to thisthe station is the shopping center "Prospekt", where tourists will find a cozy restaurant of national cuisine, a market and McDonald's. Taking tram number 5, you can get to the largest shopping centers in Kazan (MEGA and Yuzhny) in ten minutes.
Ametyevo
The so-called "space" station of the Kazan metro. It's worth getting off the train here and taking in the views of the surroundings, because this is the only above-ground station in the city.
Sukonnaya Sloboda (Central Kazan)
Metro station located in the city center. Its design is made in coffee and cream tones, in the style of the 18th and 19th centuries. The puppet theater "Ekiyat" is located near the station. Nearby is the pedestrian street Peterburgskaya. It overlooks the central street of Kazan - Bauman.
Gorki
The construction of the subway began from this station. Its design is the most modest, but it was built in record time - a year and a half. And the number of workers who took part in the process reached 800 people.
“Gabdulla Tukay Square”
Every centimeter of the walls of this station is lined with mosaics illustrating national Tatar fairy tales. There is also a portrait of the poet G. Tukay himself. Here begins the central street of Bauman, where numerous cozy cafes, hotels, shops selling souvenirs, the shopping center "Koltso" await tourists.
Kremlinskaya
Located next to the Kazan Kremlin. The design is appropriate: a mosaic with mythical characters, small towers with illumination. At the exit from the station there are smalltour desks. Nearby - Central Department Store, National Museum, entertainment complex "Pyramid".
Yashlek
The name of the station comes from a Soviet store that was popular in the city during Soviet times. It was called "Youth". To give a national flavor, the station was named in the Tatar language. Here is the market of the Moscow district of the city. Nearby is the recently renovated Park of Culture of the House of Culture of Chemists.
Kozya Sloboda
A simple and modern station without any frills. Near the exit are the Tandem shopping center, the Kazan registry office, the Kyrlay amusement park, and the embankment. One of the largest water parks in Russia - "Riviera" (Kazan, metro station "Kozya Sloboda") is located a five-minute walk from the exit to the city.
North Station
Here is one of the city's railway stations. It is modern and beautiful. There are several stations in Kazan, so it is worth specifying where the desired train arrives or departs from. Tourists often confuse departure points.
Aircraft Building
This is the final station of the Kazan metro. Its name comes from the enterprises located nearby. This is an aircraft building college, plant number 22. There is also a Gorbunov engine building plant and a large recreation park with a monument to Lenin.
How can I find the subway entrance
Metro stations (Kazan), as in other cities, are marked with the letter "M". But the local "emka" is painted green and has a signature "curl" in the formtulip. Seeing such a letter in front of you, you can be sure that this is the entrance to the subway.
