According to experts, among the wide variety of models of small arms, only a few have become legendary. It is these samples that set the tone in their industry. One of them was the German Parabellum pistol. This rifle unit is also called the Luger artillery pistol. What is parabellum? How is the weapon made? What tactical and technical properties does it have? You will learn more about this rifle unit from this article.
What is parabellum?
This is the name of a legendary weapon that has automatic linkage. First of all, the military knows what a parabellum is, since this pistol was used by the armies of 30 states. According to experts, parabellum is unique in that it is still produced today, despite the fact that alloy steel and plastic alloys are already used in the production of modern pistols.
About design
According to experts, parabellumworks due to the recoil of the barrel, which is set in motion by the powder gases formed after the shot. In this case, the barrel is displaced, it is locked and the ammunition is brought into the barrel channel. The barrel and ammunition box are a moving part. They are connected to each other by means of a thread. The pistol is equipped with standard sights, namely the front sight and the whole. The box is equipped with parts that lock the barrel. Weapons with magazine ammunition. The clip contains 8 rounds. There is a sample for which a drum with a capacity of up to 32 rounds is provided. Such a pistol is also called artillery. The handle relative to the barrel was placed at an angle, the angle of which was 120 degrees. With such a design feature, you won’t need to aim for a long time, you can shoot instantly. The handle is knurled to ensure a secure hold.
USM
In the trigger mechanism there is a classic drummer, the force indicator for which is 1.8 kg. This parameter, according to experts, is quite low. Mostly it is inherent in sports weapons. USM with automatic recharging is designed exclusively for single firing. At the rear of the receiver is a place for a locking type fuse, in which there is a lever and a bolt frame. Due to the complex design, it is not easy to disassemble the gun. After the shot, the cartridge case is extracted using a spring-loaded ejector. When the clip is empty, the shutteroccupies the charging position. What is parabellum, first learned in 1989. It was from that time that design work began on the creation of a pistol. This process took place in stages. Several models have been created, more on which below.
M.1900
In 1898, Georg Luger was improving the Borchardt pistol. In order to reduce the size and weight of the weapon, Luger replaced the leaf spring with a twisted one. A new version of the pistol was developed for 7.65 mm cartridges. A pistol with a safety catch, the location of which was the rear of the frame. Model number 3 is listed. We tested weapons the following year. After successful tests, the parabellum was adopted by the Swiss army. In 1899, Luger patented the components of the pistol as new mechanisms. In 1902, this rifle unit (M.1900) with four rifling began to arrive in Turkey, Russia and Germany. The parties were small and did not number 1,000 units.
M.1902
In 1903, the design of the parabellum underwent minor changes, as a result of which the pistol was adapted to the new 9 mm caliber. Compared to the previous ammunition, the new one was with a power density increased by 35%. Soon this caliber was the main one. M.1902 pistol with a thick and short barrel (10.2 cm) with six grooves.
M.1904
This is the first mass production. In this sample, instead of the usual spring ejector, a special one is used, in which there is a vertic altooth. A model with a flip-over sight, designed for a distance of 100 and 200 m. The back of the handle was equipped with a special groove through which the holster-butt is attached. The total length of the 9 mm pistol was 26.2 cm, the barrel was 14.7 cm. The weapon weighs 915 g. The fired projectile has an initial velocity of 350 m/s. This model was produced from 1905 to 1918. for the German Navy. In total, over 81 thousand units were made.
M.1906
According to experts, this version with the most serious design changes. Instead of a lamellar return spring, there is a twisted cylindrical one in the handle. In addition, the fuse was moved down. Now he locks the sear. In the shutter, the upper part was made semicircular, the hinge grips were flat and diamond-shaped. This parabellum model was produced in two versions: with barrels 12.2 cm long for 7.65 mm ammunition and 10.2 cm thick barrels for firing 9 mm cartridges.
M.19 08
The 1908 Parabellum pistol does not have an automatic safety. The weapon is equipped only with a flag. Like M.1906, a new model with a twisted cylindrical return spring and an extractor combined with an ammunition indicator. The length of the barrel varied from 9.8 to 20 cm. The most common were models with barrels of 10 and 12 cm. Until 1918, more than 908 thousand units were produced. According to military experts, the disadvantage of weapons is that the cartridge cases are extracted upwards. For this reason,if you shoot from the stomach, the shells will fly straight into the face.
TTX
The following performance characteristics are inherent in the parabellum pistol:
- The stem is 4 cm wide and 13.5 cm high.
- 9mm pistol fires 9 x 19mm Parabellum ammunition.
- Powered by short-throw barrel recoil.
- Up to 32 shots can be fired from this model per minute.
- The muzzle velocity of the fired projectile is 350 m/s.
- The gun is effective at a distance of up to 50 m.
- Maximum combat range - 100 m.
- Pistol with open sights.
About "pneumat"
A wind model has been designed for civilian use for recreational shooting. Pneumatic pistol "Gletcher Parabellum" is a gas-balloon weapon. Shooting is carried out with explosive balls of 4.5 mm caliber. The energy source is CO2, which is contained in a 12-gram can.
Judging by the reviews of the owners, it is enough to make 50 shots. A pistol with a smooth barrel is self-cocking. This model weighs 900 g. The barrel length is 10.1 cm. The total length of the Parabellum Glacier pistol is 21.2 cm. Magazine-type ammunition - one clip contains 21 balls. In a second, the fired projectile overcomes 100 m. "Pneumat" with a power of 3 J. A pistol with a large front sight and a sight, which can be adjusted or removed constructivelyimpossible. Pneumatic pistol parabellum made of metal. Plastic grips only.
Opinion of owners
The wind version has both strengths and weaknesses. The advantage of the "pneumat" is that it visually practically does not differ from the combat counterpart. In addition, such a pistol is relatively inexpensive - it can be purchased for 6 thousand rubles. You can shoot from a self-projection. All you need to do is insert a gas bottle and load the clip with balls. The disadvantage of the weapon is that it has a weak accuracy of combat. In addition, there is no retainer in the clip. For this reason, while charging, the owner needs to hold the spring with his hand so that it does not come off.
