Life before the war

Dundee Angelo was born on August 30, 1921 in Florida. His real name is Angelo Mirena. Following the example of his older brother, he took the name Dundee in honor of the famous Italian boxer.

During the Second World War, Dundee Angelo served in the army, where he realized such a strong love for boxing. Very often he took part in competitions, but not as a fighter, but as a second. An interesting fact is that the boxer himself did not take part in these fights. The only exception was a couple of fights during the service.

Life after the army

After Dundee Angelo completed his military service, he, like his brother, moved to New York. One day he heard a young unfamiliar voice on the telephone, saying that Angelo should start training a certain Cassius Clay. The guy said that in a few years he would become world champion, so Dundee could not refuse him. Instead of sending the unknown teenager to hell, Angelo told him to come.

As soon as the guy entered the gym, Angelo Dundee (boxing coach) immediately realized that he was in front of a future champion. Angelo was never able to answer the question of why he allowed the young impudent man to come into his hall. He could have simply refused him.

Important victories

Subsequently, Cassius Clay became known as Mohammed Ali. His claims turned out to be true. Two years later, young Ali was able towin the olympiad. And at the age of 22, he became the world champion among professionals.

Angelo Dundee and Mohammed Ali have become real allies, having gone through the toughest fights with Sonny Liston and George Foreman.

An interesting fact is that in 1974 Foreman accused Dundee of stretching the ropes. But after a few years they became employees and allies. This couple amazed everyone: 73-year-old Dundee, a veteran trainer, and 45-year-old Foreman, who was the oldest active boxer. Despite their age, the couple showed very good results. During his coaching career, Dundee Angelo raised fifteen students who became world champions. The coach is famous all over the world. In 1994, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Death of famous coach

In 2010, the coach's wife, Helen, died, and he decided to move closer to his children.

On February 1, 2012, famed mime trainer Angelo Dundee died at the age of ninety. He died on Thursday night at his home in Tampa, Florida.

Dundee died surrounded by his friends and loved ones. He was very happy that he got the opportunity to celebrate his birthday on January 17 with Muhammad Ali. But througha few days after this event, he was admitted to the hospital due to the formation of a blood clot. After carrying out the necessary medical measures, he was sent home. However, his condition worsened at home due to breathing problems.

Angelo Dundee, whose funeral was organized in the state of Florida, was very happy that he chose a profession by vocation and was able to raise a huge number of strong personalities.

About six hundred people came to the funeral, including Muhammad Ali and other famous boxers. According to the coach's son, his father was a simple and unique person. He treated everyone equally well, and at the same time everyone felt his care and understanding. During his life, his father did everything he wanted, so dying was not at all scary for him.
