Perm is the largest city in the Cis-Urals, founded in 1723. An important industrial, transport and scientific center of the country. For almost half a century, the population of Perm fluctuated around the mark of one million inhabitants. How many people live in this city today?
Perm: a quick look at the city
Perm is a city with its own peculiarities and zest. First of all, let's look at its history. It was here that the first university in the Urals was opened (it happened in 1916). And it was through Perm that the first railway line in the Urals passed (in 1876).
The city of Perm is a real industrial giant! NPO "Iskra", the company "STAR", the German plant Henkel, instrument-making and engine-building complexes - this is not a complete list of Perm plants and enterprises. Few people know that in terms of industrial production, Perm is ahead of Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg. The city itself is surprisingly green and spacious, it is pleasant to walk around it.
Perm has preserved many of the most beautiful old buildings made of stone and wood. By the way, a tourist does not need to prepare at all before a trip to this city. The streets are laidtourist routes (they are marked with green stripes), and stands with information about objects are installed near all historical and architectural monuments.
And in honor of the name of the city was named a whole period of geochronological history of the Earth - Permian. In the city, you can visit the Museum of Perm Antiquities, unique in content, and take an unforgettable walk into the past of our planet.
Cherished "million": double conquest
The rapid development of industry in the city could not but affect its population. The population of Perm grew rapidly throughout almost the entire 20th century. At the beginning of the last century, only 50 thousand people lived here, and by the middle of it - already up to 500 thousand.
In 1979, Perm crossed the threshold of 1 million inhabitants. However, in the 90s, the city suffered the problem of most of the post-Soviet space - depopulation. The population of Perm on average decreased by 3-5 thousand annually. Ultimately, this led to the fact that the city in 2004 lost the honorary status of a "millionaire city".
However, at the end of the 2000s, the demographic situation in the city began to gradually improve. And, despite the forecasts of skeptical experts, the capital of the Perm Territory regained the title of "millionaire" in terms of the number of inhabitants.
As of 2016, the population of the city of Perm is 1,041,876 people. But within the Perm agglomeration, which includes the city of Krasnokamsk and a number of other settlements, more than 1.3 million people live.
Perm population: age andethnic composition
The ethnic composition of the population of Perm is rather motley. The share of Russians in the overall structure is 88%. The second largest ethnic group in the city are Tatars (4.3%), the third - Ukrainians (1.6%). In Perm, the peoples of the Komi-Permyaks and Bashkirs are also quite numerous (one percent each).
The age structure of the population of Perm is as follows:
- minors and children - 19%;
- able-bodied residents – 63%;
- pensioners - 18%.
It should be noted that the population of Perm is unevenly distributed throughout the city. Most Permians live in the left-bank Sverdlovsk region (218 thousand), and the least - in Leninsky (54 thousand).
