The first mention of this word in Russian chronicles dates back to 1410, Karamyshev was the name of a Novgorod boyar-merchant.

It is believed that the name Shiroky Karamysh comes from the name of the river on the banks of which the village was built. And the word "wide" refers to how the river overflows in the spring.

Historical facts

The village of Shiroky Karamysh dates back to 1723, but people settled in these places a very long time ago. Archaeologists have foundbarrows in which the Sarmatians buried their warriors - the barrows date back 2.5 thousand years. Household items, weapons owned by Slavic tribes were found in the vicinity.

Historians believe that the settlement arose in the 17th century, but had neither status nor even a name. The first mention of the village was recorded in the revision, which was carried out in 1743. At that time, the lands belonged to A. Naryshkin, and serfs lived in 127 households. After 20 years, the village has more than 300 households owned by N. Razumovskaya, and 12 households owned by K. Razumovsky.

As the village of Shiroky Karamysh was first mentioned in the documents of 1765, which means that a church appeared in the settlement. The village grew rich: by the 18th century, its own distillery, sheepfold, and school appeared.

Before the revolution of 1917, more than a thousand men and almost 1,300 women lived in 490 courtyards, a post office, a veterinary station, a paramedic's clinic, and a zemstvo school appeared. At that time, Shiroky Karamysh in the Saratov province belonged to Prince Kochubey. The peasants jointly owned 1,700 acres and rented another thousand acres, growing rye, wheat, millet, and oats. Most of the inhabitants were Orthodox, but about 300 people belonged to the Old Believers and went to their church.
