We, dear friends, are modern, literate people: we can read and write. Let's think about this topic. Has it ever crossed your mind that a book already written and, as such, the ability to write is something of a chicken and egg (which of them came first)? Curiously, if people had not learned to express their thoughts in writing, then there would be no books! In turn, without already written textbooks, children will not be able to learn to write! In the end, if we had not learned to write, then this article would not have been born! Let's talk about what absolutely everyone needs to know, namely, writing. About its occurrence and benefits for humans.

Why is this necessary?

The emergence of writing is one of the most important moments in the culture of all mankind. After all, we are surrounded by inscriptions everywhere. Imagine that they suddenly disappear … How will we continue to live - write love letters, communicate on social networks and, in the end, sign important documents? In addition, we will not know which route our bus follows, what is sold on the shelves of one or anotherstore, what kind of picture is shown in the cinema now, how to take medicine correctly, and all modern people need to know this …

How did writing begin

Once people were illiterate - they could neither read nor write. However, this does not mean that they are stupid. At the dawn of the life of mankind, their knowledge of the world around them was so insignificant that they simply did not require any kind of written fixation. After all, what absolutely everyone needs to know at that time, for example, the history of their family, customs and legends, the art of hunting, fit perfectly into the memory of an ancient person. But time went inexorably forward, and human knowledge expanded more and more. And so, when all knowledge could not fit in the head of one person, writing arose!

Pictograms

This is the oldest type of writing. Pictograms are something that absolutely all living people who want to be culturally enlightened need to know. Of course, these are not quite inscriptions, but not just pictures either! Ancient people "told" about their customs, deeds and way of life, drawing us "messages from the past" on the walls of their dwellings, for example, in a cave. Over time, the pictograms turned into hieroglyphs.

Modern pictograms

Do you think any pictorial messages are used nowadays? Of course! And the most famous of them are the pictograms of what absolutely all people who drive a particular vehicle need to know. Guessed? That's right, these are road signs (for example,"main road" or "speed limit" and so on). In addition, we can see pictograms at airports, office buildings, and so on, because they also help us navigate where the inscriptions are impossible or made in a foreign language. For example, at the airport of any country, we will be able to understand where the exit or the toilet is.

And finally…

According to scientists, some time after the appearance of pictograms and hieroglyphs, a period began when people could already know about everything that was somehow connected with the transfer of information (drawings, gestures, a logical connection between several hieroglyphs), and it means to convey the full picture of what is happening in a new, hitherto unknown way. It was then, according to historians, that man invented the first letters.
