Modern world. A world in which there is still a place for disgusting phenomena, one of which is discrimination. This is despite the fact that technological progress is already beyond the reasonable, and scientific discoveries turn our minds upside down. It would seem that there is more to wish for, because the society is developing steadily. However, for some reason, a significant proportion of people are still unwilling to recognize the rights of those who are in any way different from them.
What is the meaning of the word "discrimination"? You can find different definitions in different sources. However, if you do not go into details and speak in general terms, then discrimination is a moral or physical infringement of someone's rights associated with the presence of a certain distinctive feature in a group of persons.
If you give an example, then the Russian law immediately comes to mind, prohibiting the so-called propaganda of homosexuality. To answer the question of what it is in general, politicians either find it difficult, or begin to refer to the immature children's minds. However, in this case, there is a banal discrimination, the main purpose of which is to distract the thoughts of a simple layman from the real problems that exist in the country: economic, political andsocial.
It should, however, be noted that the examples described above are typical mainly for Russian society. In the countries of Europe and America, a person belonging to a sexual minority has not surprised anyone for a long time. In addition, he has equal rights with everyone, and in some countries even the right to marry (the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway and many others).
Another direction in which discrimination is manifested is racism, that is, the infringement of the rights of a group of people on racial and national grounds. Racism and chauvinism in 1939 became one of the main reasons for the start of a destructive war. The weak minds of today, apparently forgetting what the consequences of the Great Patriotic War were, are cultivating and spreading the ideas of neo-Nazism. Not knowing where to direct their forces, young people (in 95% of cases they are young) people direct them not to creation, but to destruction and hatred.
Another example of infringement of someone's rights is gender discrimination, which is especially evident in the world of work. This type of intolerance is characterized as follows: considering someone's candidacy as a potential employee, the employer judges not by his individual qualities, but by the qualities inherent in a particular social group (in this case, men or women). Here we can mention another trend. For example, a woman who works as a driver, or a man who has found his calling in the fashion world, many people treat, if not withcontempt, then certainly with strong misunderstanding and disapproval.
Discrimination is something that must be fought against, no matter in what sphere of life it manifests itself. Lack of tolerance only harms society: developing materially, it forgets about spirituality and tolerance. And this state of affairs, in the final analysis, usually leads either to wars or, at best, to revolutions. Intolerance always leads to the degradation of society and hinders its development.
