Orenburg is an important industrial and transport center of the Ural region, where over 550 thousand people live. The city is located on the Ural River, on the conditional border between Europe and Asia. In this article, we will take a closer look at the districts of Orenburg, their borders and location.
Territorial division of the city: features and interesting facts
The territory of the city is divided into 4 administrative units. These are the Central, Dzerzhinsky, Industrial and Leninsky districts. Orenburg also includes ten villages and towns. Previously, they were independent settlements.
The districts of Orenburg are divided into smaller neighborhoods and residential areas. The names of some of them are quite bizarre and unusual.
So, for example, the village of Podmayachny (this is its official name) was nicknamed Shanghai by the locals. As you know, areas with this name are present in many cities of the post-Soviet space and they are distinguished by an increased crime situation. The Orenburg "Shanghai" is no exception, although quite we althy andlaw-abiding citizens.
Another housing estate in Orenburg - Aviagorodok - is called Africa. Where this name came from is not exactly known. Orenburg also has its own "China", "Paris", "Albania" … But for some reason, a solid array of the private sector in the city center was nicknamed Novostroyka, although the local houses are at least fifty years old. If you delve into the history of Orenburg, then everything will become quite obvious. This area was built up in the middle of the twentieth century after a series of large-scale fires that destroyed a large number of residential buildings in the city. The locals called the newly erected houses "new buildings", and this name was soon assigned to the whole area.
Regions of Orenburg and their geography
As mentioned above, the administrative structure of the city provides for the division into four territorial entities. The districts of Orenburg were formed in the second half of the last century, and their borders are described in detail in a special decree of 2009.

Dzerzhinsky district is located in the north of the city and has only 59 streets. This is the youngest in age and the second largest district in Orenburg. Its development is dominated by modern and high-rise residential buildings. In addition, here are the largest in the cityoffice and shopping centers.
Leninsky district of Orenburg is the largest in area (130 sq. km.). There are 406 streets within its borders. The district occupies the eastern and southeastern part of Orenburg. The main transport axis of the district is Gagarin Avenue with a length of nine kilometers.
Central District occupies the central part of the city. Within its boundaries - 144 streets. It is here that the main attractions of Orenburg are located: the garden. Frunze, Zauralnaya Grove, Governor's Museum, monuments to Lenin and Chkalov.
