Who has not heard the song about the Orenburg downy shawl and does not know about this famous masterpiece of needlework? There probably aren't any. And where is Orenburg located - the city that gave the world both a scarf and a hit? What is its history and what does it represent today?
Geographical characteristics of Orenburg
To find out where Orenburg is located, you need to find the border with Kazakhstan on the map of the Russian Federation, and above it - the Ural River. Near the confluence of another river, the Sakmara, the city is located. It is the capital of the Orenburg region and territorially belongs to the southern part of the Urals. The area of the administrative center is almost 260 km2, and the population is more than 0.5 million people.
The point where Orenburg is located is considered the junction of Europe and Asia, and the city itself is a link between them. A chic railway interchange and an airport for domestic and international flights make it such.
History of the city
Orenburg is called three times conceived and once born. And all because it really was laid three times. For the first time (in the 35th year of the 18th century) - on the spotpresent Orsk; in the second (three years later) - just down the Yaik River; and only on the third attempt, in 1743, the settlement was moved to the place where the city of Orenburg is today.
Before the revolution, the city was used as a place of exile, and during the Great Patriotic War - as a reliable rear, where both people and enterprises were transported.
Until the 70s of the 20th century, Orenburg remained a "one-story" city, a deep, remote province. But everything changed dramatically when rich gas fields were discovered near it.
Modern Orenburg
Knowing where Orenburg is located, it's hard to imagine that life can boil in it. But it really is!
The discovery of gas fields made Orenburg a major industrial and economic center of the Urals, and exile and rear practices had a beneficial effect on the cultural face of the city. For many years in a row, the intelligentsia settled here - the color of society. And now the heirs of those people are writing a bright, interesting, highly spiritual and creative history of Orenburg.
This factor, as well as the beautiful nature and the very famous scarf, make the city attractive in the eyes of tourists, who are especially numerous in late spring and early summer.
