The surroundings of St. Petersburg are famous for their beautiful well-maintained parks and squares, on the territory of which there are usually old mansions and monuments of the past.
But Okkervil Park is a little different from the rest, primarily because of its youth. The park area looks modern. In addition, it is convenient for people. When creating the park, we were guided by various ways of useful pastime for residents and guests of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
History of occurrence
This park was opened on October 2, 2010 on the banks of a stream with the same name - Okkervil.
The Otdelstroy company was engaged in the improvement of the territory, with an area of 10 hectares, after some time, or rather in 2012, a forest was added to the park, which was also put in order and had approximately the same area. This land was named “Okkervil forest park”, one part of which was equipped with landscape designers, and the other part was left to preserve the natural look of untouched nature.
Origin titles
Those who hear the name of Okkervil Park for the first time always ask the question about the origin of its name. After all, it does not sound at all in the Russian manner.
Indeed, this natural area is named after the river on the banks of which the park is located. This reservoir is very small, about 18 km long, originates from the Koltush swamps and flows into the Okhta River.
Geographers and local historians did not come to a consensus on the name of the river, but the main version is set out in a book called “Why are they named like that?” in Okhta there was a manor of the Swedish colonel Okkervil. Here, supposedly, the name of the river comes from the name of this person, and later the name of the entire park.
Exact location
This beautifully landscaped forest and park is located north of Leningradskaya Street. To the south of them is the town of Kudrovo and the residential complex "Birch Grove". St. Petersburg Ring Road is located to the east of Okkervil Park.
Dybenko metro station is located about a kilometer from the park. In the coming years, it is planned to open a new Kudrovo station.
You can get to the park by public transport, drive to the Dybenko metro station, and then walk a little. There are also fixed-route taxis in this direction.
Park Development
In this picturesque area, two bike paths have been made, located alonga circle, 1 and 2 km long, along which you can ride bikes, roller skates or just take a walk with a stroller. And even if you don't have your own bike or roller skates, you can take advantage of the opportunity for a pleasant and useful holiday by renting a two-wheeled vehicle.
Fitness equipment has been installed on the park square so that everyone can do outdoor sports.
At the beginning of summer, flower beds and picnic areas were decorated in the form of paid gazebos. Also, the river bed was widened by the opening day of the park, providing the opportunity for comfortable swimming and fishing.
In addition, several bridges have been built across the river, a beach has been built, and cabanas, a playground and umbrellas have been installed.
In winter, the river is also not empty, they make a skating rink on it and organize various competitions, such as ski races or hockey games.
It is planned to equip a dog walking area, as well as a volleyball court and additional playgrounds. In addition, they want to add some more bike lanes and build a street scene.
On the territory of the Okkervil park, the photo of which can be seen in this article, there is a temple in honor of the Vatopedi Icon of the Mother of God. Its consecration took place on May 25, 2014. Now the construction of the Cathedral of the Apostle John the Theologian has begun on its territory.

The construction of a new residential complex has begun on the territory that borders this park, guaranteeingfuture residents fresh air and silence. The house will consist of four buildings, which are planned to be made in an original and beautiful design, not inferior in appearance to city buildings.
The facility is located in close proximity to social facilities and infrastructure, convenient transport links provide a tram and route connection with St. Petersburg. For car owners, developers have provided several exits to the ring road and Murmansk highway.
