2024 Author: Henry Conors | [email protected]. Last modified: 2024-02-12 02:40
Latvia is not a very populated country. Because no city, then almost everyone is the capital. That is, the administrative center of the region of the same name. Most of the cities are in northwestern Latvia (Vedzeme). Basically, their distribution throughout the country is even. Only Celia suffers: here even the administrative centers of the regions are not cities.
At least a thousand
Before we start compiling a list of cities in Latvia, let's say that in this country the right to be called a city has settlements where a thousand or more citizens live. There are 77 such formations in Latvia.
Cities and others
The largest nine cities of Latvia in the list are called "cities of republican significance", the rest are mostly administrative centers of the regions, of which there are 109 units in Latvia.
Zemgale, Kurzeme, Latgale, Vidzeme and Seliya
There is also a division into regions in this country. But interestingly, it is notadministrative and economic. These are planning regions, as well as historical and cultural regions of Latvia.
Cities of Latvia. Alphabetical list in Russian
In fact, a number of cities have even fewer inhabitants. Reason: migration of the population to larger settlements of the country and the EU countries. However, even with a decrease in the population, the city does not lose its status. So, let's look at the list of Latvian cities in alphabetical order.
