The effectiveness of the navy depends on the balance of its composition and the characteristics of the ships included in it.
Fearless Series
Ships under the code "Hawk" replaced the patrol boats of series 1135 "Petrel". The first-born of the series was the Fearless, laid down on the stocks of Kaliningrad in 1987. The entire short series of ships of the same type is named after him. So far, it includes only the patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" and the third ship of the series, which is being completed.
According to the classification of ships adopted in the Soviet Union, these are patrol ships capable of operating not only independently, but also as part of a squadron. An older classification ranked them as escort destroyers. From point of viewWestern experts, these ships belong to the class of frigates.
The patrol ship of the TFR "Yaroslav the Wise" was laid down in Soviet times, in 1988. For a long time he was on conservation due to problems with the financing of the defense complex. Only in 2009, the Russian Naval Ensign was raised over its stern.
Overview
The watchman is designed to provide air defense, anti-submarine defense of squadrons and formations, to deliver missile and artillery strikes against both sea and ground targets.
The distinguishing feature of the series, to which the patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" belongs, is the presence of a Ka-27 sea-based helicopter on board. It allows you to carry out reconnaissance at a considerable distance from the ship, conduct searches and independently attack enemy submarines. The helicopter is capable of providing target designation for the anti-ship missile system.
The patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" of the Russian Navy has a cruising range of three and a half thousand nautical miles with an autonomy of thirty days. It is determined based on food supplies on board for a crew of two hundred and fourteen people, including twenty-seven officers.
Patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise": characteristics of the hull and power plant
The silhouette of the ship attracts attention with the aggressive outlines of the elongated bow with a turret mounted on itartillery installation. Under the stem, a domed part of the bow structure is noticeable, which improves driving performance. The antenna of the hydroacoustic complex is mounted in it.
The length and width of the vessel is slightly larger than that of the patrol boats of the previous Burevestnik series. It is equipped with a roll damping system that improves habitability and conditions for the use of weapons.
The patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" has an extensive superstructure, designed in such a way as to ensure minimal radio visibility of the ship. In the stern of the guard ship there is a hangar for an anti-submarine helicopter with a warehouse of fuel, weapons and everything necessary for successful use.
The vessel is equipped with two gas turbine units for each shaft, which drive the propellers. One is designed for economical navigation, the second allows you to move in forced mode at speeds up to thirty knots, or fifty-five kilometers per hour.
Rocket and artillery weapons
The striking power of the frigate is impressive. The turret artillery system has a caliber of one hundred and thirty millimeters and is crowned with a developed forecastle, which distinguishes the Yaroslav the Wise patrol ship. The performance characteristics of the installation allow you to fire on all types of targets, including hitting such complex ones as anti-ship missiles.
Behind the gun turret are containers with launchers for anti-aircraft missiles of the near zone "Dagger", recessed almost below deck level. They areallow you to destroy all types of air targets at a distance of up to twelve kilometers. Anti-aircraft capabilities are reinforced by two posts of the Kortik anti-aircraft missile system located in the stern. The guns of the complex can also effectively hit surface and ground targets.
The main strike weapon that the patrol ship "Yaroslav Mudry" has at its disposal are anti-ship missiles of the "Uranus" complex. Launchers with four missiles each are placed along each side. The range of missiles is 260 kilometers.
The missile of the complex attacks the target, moving at a height of up to fifteen meters above sea level. Entering the combat section of the trajectory, it additionally decreases to three to five meters from the water. The low attack profile and close to sonic speed make it difficult to intercept the missile.
Anti-submarine capabilities
Reconnaissance of the situation is carried out by means of the ship's hydroacoustic station. The patrol-based helicopter expands its capabilities through the use of towed acoustic systems.
In addition to a helicopter capable of carrying anti-submarine weapons, the Yaroslav the Wise patrol ship can use the Vodopad missile system and the Smerch bombing system. The missile system is capable of destroying underwater objects at a distance of up to fifty kilometers. Depth charges can reach a depth of four hundred and fifty meters at a distance of up to six kilometers from the ship.
The ship provides protection against saboteurswith the help of two ten-barreled grenade launchers. They are capable, guided by the data of the lowering sonar complex, to conduct automatic fire until the threat is completely eliminated.
Combat service
The absence of military operations at sea does not mean the disappearance of combat missions. Each trip or patrol is part of the measures that ensure the security and defense of the country. The patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" took part in the fight against pirates of the Indian Ocean, guaranteeing the protection of international trade routes.
Together with the TAKR "Peter the Great" carried out a military campaign from the B altic to the Mediterranean Sea. During this operation, he provided security and defense for the aircraft carrier group and escort vessels. Carried out the tasks of demonstrating the flag in the patrol zone. Currently, the ship is in repair docks at the Yantar shipyard.
