Despite the fact that medicine is developing more and more every day, and people no longer die from the previously fatal plague and scurvy, doctors are still not omnipotent. Unfortunately, a universal cure for cancer has not yet been found. The disease does not look at the status in society, financial situation and age. Even the most talented are not protected from it. It was because of a cancerous tumor that the world was forced to say goodbye to one of the best opera singers of our time. As you might have guessed, we will talk about Dmitry Hvorostovsky.
That same baritone
Dmitry was born into a family of people whose professions were far from art. However, the parents loved music so much that when the child began to demonstrate his vocal abilities, they did not hesitate to give their son to study and develop these abilities.
Already at the age of 23, Hvorostovsky became a soloist with the Opera and Ballet Theater in Krasnoyarsk. When, after 4 years, a young singerwon his first victory in an international competition, he decided to conquer foreign stages. London, New York, Milan, Salzburg… He conquered city after city, capital after capital. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the singer often performed at home, as he was a true patriot.
Dmitry Hvorostovsky was loved by many composers. He was admired by both sophisticated opera connoisseurs and ordinary listeners. The man in every possible way supported bands just starting to perform, in addition, he was a well-known philanthropist and helped sick children.
The singer could have won more than one heart if he had not been diagnosed with cancer in 2015.
On "before" and "after"
In the summer of 2015, the media space was filled with terrible news: Dmitry Hvorostovsky had a brain tumor (glioblastoma). The singer was forced to cancel all concerts scheduled for the near future and devote himself entirely to treatment. The news was unexpected for everyone, since Dmitry Hvorostovsky never complained about his he alth, he was full of strength and always exuded only positive emotions.
He could not live without a stage, and already in September of the same year the singer again began to delight fans with his performances, and at the end of October he gave several concerts in Russia. Even with a tumor, Dmitry Hvorostovsky continued to appear in public in every possible way, to participate in various foreign performances. Although, as the singer himself noted more than once, his life was literally divided into “before” and “after”. closefriends, family and devoted fans believed that such a cheerful and active person could overcome the disease.
Fight
Dmitry Hvorostovsky's stage of cancer, alas, was critical - the third. In such cases, it is difficult to treat even less lethal forms of the tumor, let alone the one that struck the brain.
Back in 2015, the singer actively continued to appear on stage and give concerts against all odds. He lived for today, not looking too far ahead. The man worked hard, and also often practiced yoga to restore his lungs and keep fit. Dmitry Hvorostovsky was a real fighter. Once, already being sick, he was able to perform even with an injured shoulder.
Skillfully combining treatment, chemotherapy courses with a concert schedule and the normal life of an ordinary person, he amazed not only ordinary observers, but also professional oncologists with his fortitude.
Unfortunately, already in 2016, the man was forced to cancel concerts one after another. Problems with vision, voice, and the banal lack of strength that went to fight the disease did not allow him to continue his stage activities.
A year later, on November 22, 2017, the singer passed away.
Life after the master
Friends of the most revered Russian baritone until the last could not believe that he could not overcome the disease. The man died at the age of 55. It was a huge loss for both the loving wife of the artist, his family and associates, and for the whole country. For ardent fans of opera and Hvorostovsky's work, for ordinary people, for everyone. Dmitry Hvorostovsky left four children. In 2018, the first granddaughter of the singer was born, whom he was never destined to see.
Be that as it may, even after death, his name sounds like the maestro is still alive. It is difficult to say that the country has lost talent. No, she lost a man, but his work will be alive as long as the memory of him is alive. Dmitri Hvorostovsky is forever inscribed in history as one of the most talented opera singers of his time.
