Komsomolskaya Square in Chelyabinsk is one of the iconic places in the city. There are not only shopping malls, but also recreation areas. The square is an important road junction that directs traffic to the Leninsky and Traktorozavodsky districts from the center.
Why Komsomolskaya?
September 1, 1930, not far from the intersection of Spartak Street (current V. I. Lenin Avenue) and st. Marchenko (formerly Guryevskaya St.) opened the doors of the Traktorostroy school. Now it is gymnasium No. 48 named after. N. Ostrovsky.
The square in front of the school was deserted, and only the students actively spent time here at recess and after school.
In the early years of the Great Patriotic War, volunteers of the 97th tank brigade were placed in the building, who in May 1942 marched in parade through the area and went to the front after being presented with a battle banner.
In August 1967, by decision of the city executive committee, the wasteland in front of school No. 48 was officially named Komsomolskaya Square in Chelyabinsk.
What to see
Despite the relative youth, photos of Komsomolskaya Square in Chelyabinsk are regularly published in various catalogs of the city's sights.
The events of those years are immortalized in a monument: the IS-3 tank, which was opened in May 1965, reminds of the second name of Chelyabinsk - Tankograd. The production of this vehicle was launched in the last years of the Second World War, but the tank took part in the Victory Parades in Berlin and Potsdam.
Then, in May 1965, a monument to the heroes of the rear of the Great Patriotic War was erected on Komsomolskaya Square in Chelyabinsk. But due to the negligence of the authorities, the bas-relief was lost, and a multi-storey building with apartments was erected in its place.
On the left side of the square borders on the park. Valentina Tereshkova, where you can have a good time both in winter and in the summer heat. The square was created in the 50s of the last century, it has a fountain, children's attractions, a cafe.
