History of Creation
The Russian people proudly speak of the defenders of the country, who at the cost of their lives defeated the Nazis. Memorials dedicated to Soviet defenders have been created throughout the country. Khabarovsk did not stand aside either. In honor of the thirty-year victory over Germany, the Glory Square was built here. It was located in the very center of the city. Glory Square rises on a hill that approaches the banks of the wide and mighty Amur. Adjacent to it is Lenin Street, which is the central one in Khabarovsk.
The Square of Glory is thought out so that in its center there is a thirty-meter obelisk, consisting of three vertical reinforced concrete steles. They symbolize three decades of peaceful life, remind that Nazi Germany was defeated by Soviet troops. The upper part of the created obelisk is decorated with a metal plate. It symbolizes a fluttering banner, which is topped with a five-pointed star. It recalls the feat of arms of civilians who made inhuman efforts in the rear in order to help the soldiers fighting the enemy on the fields of the Great Patriotic War. There is a hammer and a sickle on the star, theyare symbols of labor feat.
The Square of Glory is a real place of pride for the citizens. There is a laurel branch at the bottom of the stele. The names of 58 residents of the Khabarovsk Territory, who became heroes of the Soviet Union, are carved on it in gold letters. On the other side of the stele are the names of six holders of the Order of Glory, as well as the names of 61 Heroes of Socialist Labor.
