Until 2012, Maxim Gennadievich worked in the Moscow government under the leadership of Sergei Sobyanin, while overseeing several successful projects: creating a financial base for opening an MFC, as well as organizing the first resource on the Internet for direct communication between citizens and the authorities.

It is noteworthy that in his role as a civil servant, Reshetnikov never engaged in commercial activities, despite his vast economic knowledge. After dismissing Vladimir Basargin, Putin in February 2017 appointed Reshetnikov as interim governor of the Perm Territory.

Commenting on his appointment, Maxim Gennadievich expressed his great joy at the fact that he was lucky enough to oversee his native land, and spoke about the upcoming plans for the development of the city and the region. At a meeting with the President, Reshetnikov outlined the main directions of his future activities, namely, growth in the economy and the social sphere.

With his first decision in his new post, Maxim Reshetnikov changed the composition of the entire governor's office. For example, the Governor appointed Yelena Lopareva to the post of Deputy Prime Minister, who had previously shown herself well as an employee of the Department of Economic Policy in Moscow.
