Mixed martial arts are famous for many great fighters, but among the best there will always be a place for those who are recognized as the most dangerous, fastest and strongest. One of these athletes today is the American Robbie Lawler - a man who managed to become a real MMA legend during his lifetime and earned fame all over the world.
Biographical sketches
The current champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship is a native of San Diego, California. Robbie Lawler was born on March 20, 1982. From the age of nine, his life was devoted to martial arts. At first he was engaged in karate. After practicing this martial art for a year, he moves to Davenport, where he continues his training and education in high school. Thanks to perseverance and determination, the young man was able to win many state awards by taking part in wrestling tournaments. He also played football. After graduating from school, the young fighter began to train his martial art in more depth. His trainer was former MMA fighter Pat Miletich.
Starting UFC career
Professional fights in thispromotion Robbie Lawler held regularly and with varying degrees of success. The young and daring American won his first three fights in this organization, and his opponents in these battles were far from the most passable fighters: Aaron Riley, Tiki Ghosn, Steve Berger - all of them were in good standing with the company's management. However, the budding Robbie was able to defeat them, and it seemed that everything would go smoothly for him. Unfortunately, there are not only ups and downs in life…
Losses
The first fiasco for Lawler was a technical knockout from Pete Spratt. After this fight, there was success in the fight with Chris Little. But then Robbie Lawler experienced two bitter defeats. His first offender was Nick Diaz, and the second was veteran Evan Tanner.
It is worth noting that in the duel with Diaz, our hero fought quite successfully at first, but, having missed a quick and hard blow from the right, he was knocked out. As for the confrontation with Tanner, the lack of experience in fighting the titans of the octagon affected here. Lawler was able to perform an unrealistically cool slam, but in the end he got caught by a choke and had to give up.
Strikeforce performances
Robbie Lawler, whose photo is shown below, after his departure from the UFC managed to win the title of EliteXC champion and also defend it. But even this was not enough for the American. He moved to the now-defunct Strikeforce promotion and tried to climb to the top again. But here he failed. In a title fight with the Brazilian Ronaldo Souza Robbiewas defeated by rear naked choke. After this fight, the second defeat in a row immediately followed. This time Robbie's offender was his compatriot Tim Kennedy. The last fight in this prestigious organization in the past was with Lorenzo Larkin, to whom he also lost by unanimous decision.
Return to the top fighter league
In 2013, Lawler returns to the UFC. The debut was very successful. Robbie literally swept Josh Koscheck out of his way, knocking him out in the first five minutes. This was followed by two more victories in a row. Bobby Walker and Rory McDonald were defeated.
And then there was an epic fight with Johnny Hendrix for the welterweight title. Lawler lost by a rather controversial decision. But after a few months, he met Johnny again and was able to defeat him.
To date, Robbie Lawler, whose biography is saturated with trials, is the current leader of his division and made two successful defenses of his championship belt.
Strengths of a fighter
The American is right-handed, quite athletic and powerful. Hits hard with both hands. He prefers to work in the standing position, and on the ground he finishes off his opponents with his hands. During movements in the cage, he swings the “pendulum” in amplitude, which causes difficulties for the opponent. He never misses a chance to hit with his knee, and generally works well with his legs.
Weaknesses
Robbie Lawler, whose tattoos play farnot the last role in his life, he does not like to fight. Almost all of his fights that he won, he finished off the ground. Even in those moments when the champion could end the fight with a painful or choke hold, he did not do this, actively processing the competitors with his hands.
Prospects
Lawler is by no means the dominant division leader. His recent victories have shown that he also has many weaknesses. But what cannot be taken away from him is his incredible will and endurance. He stubbornly goes to his goal, sweeping away everything in his path. However, given the fierce competition in the welterweight division following the departure of longtime champion St. Pierre, it's hard to believe that Robbie will be able to stay at the top for very long. We, in turn, wish the athlete success and believe that he will please us with many bright fights.
