The history of the famous automobile brand Lamborghini begins in the middle of the 20th century. The founder of the company is Ferruccio Lamborghini, which explains the name of the company. In this article, you will learn all the details of the life of a motorist, the history of the creation of a car brand and much more.
Short biography of Ferruccio Lamborghini
Lamborghini was born in 1916 in an Italian village. He was a quiet boy, the son of a farmer. Ferruccio constantly spent time in his father's workshop. My father devoted all his free time to repairing rural equipment, since farming was the only way to earn money for the whole family. Rumors about the golden hands of Lamborghini spread throughout Italy, as a result of which people from all over the area came to his father with requests for the repair of this or that equipment.
Noticing Ferruccio's craving for technology and the desire to understand the structure of cars, his father gave him a place in his workshop. Over time, Ferruccio Lamborghini surpassed his father, and already the eldest turned to his son with requests for the repair of agricultur altechnique.
Work in the workshop was not in vain for the young man. Having gained theoretical knowledge, and most importantly practical experience, the Italian enters college, where he continues to learn the craft. After graduating from college, Ferruccio goes to the service. After the army, the young specialist begins to think about his own business, which will be connected with cars. The young man didn't want to just sell or assemble cars, he wanted to be busy designing and building them.
30s of the last century just fell on the golden era for the development of motorsport. The young Lamborghini was in all these events like a fish in water. He knew all the racers, all sports cars, understood their device and dreamed of his own development. But he did not succeed in immediately bringing all his plans to life.
Circumstances against
All plans at once collapsed due to the outbreak of World War II. In these difficult years for Europe and the whole world, Ferruccio was not at all up to building cars. After the end of the war, Lamborghini was no longer the teenager who dreamed of a large company that produces cool and powerful sports cars.
However, he did not leave the dream of creating his own company. In 1947, Ferruccio opens Lamborghini Trattori S. P. A. The implementation was far from the ideas and dreams of the creator. Instead of sports cars, the company was engaged in the production of tractors. As an adult, Ferruccio understood that in post-war Europe, no one needed sports cars. It is necessary to raise agriculture. Releaseown tractors was ideal.
Gradually, the company's products have become very high quality and the best in their industry. For 10 years of producing agricultural machinery, the Italian has forgotten about the dream of creating cars.
Vector change
In the early 60s, Lamborghini Ferruccio began to think again about opening his own car development company. The time period was just right to change the profile of their own enterprise. Italy recovered from the effects of the war and was ready for further development, which was a place of luxury. And luxury includes car racing.
Already a year later, an automobile plant was built in Santa Agata. The company's first development is the Lamborghini 350 GT. Despite the investment and efforts, the car did not impress the public, as did a competitor from Ferrari.
First difficulties
The exterior of the supercar was developed by the Touring studio. Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to terminate cooperation with this company, blaming them for the failure of the first Lamborghini model.
Ferruchio started a collaboration with Bertone, who created a new design for the supercar from scratch. This studio designed a model for the company called Miura. The car was created from scratch in just 4 months and blew up the entire automotive industry.
The appearance looked quite unusual and fresh, compared to all competitors in the face of Ferrari. In Miuraa 370-horsepower unit was installed with a maximum speed of 274 km / h. Two years later, the company released the S version, which brought Lamborghini closer to the 300 km / h mark, which at that time was unattainable.
Countach and Diablo
Ferruchio Lamborghini, whose biography is full of ups and downs, started creating a new car in 1971. At the same time, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Countach appeared at the Geneva Motor Show. This moment can be called a turning point in the entire field of supercars of that time. In many ways, this model influenced the current situation in the market for expensive supercars.
In terms of design, the Countach seemed to be something completely new and different from all other cars. However, in terms of technical characteristics, Ferruccio could not surpass the previous car. The new sports car did not overcome the mark of 300 km / h. He was only 10 km/h short of the all-time record.
The Countach appeared in series production in 1974. On the assembly line, the car lasted until the early 90s. After that, the model was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest production car. It would seem that Ferruccio's dream has been fulfilled - a large automobile concern that creates the fastest cars in the world and unusual in terms of design, which are ahead of time for several years ahead. But it took the Italian a lifetime to realize this dream. Model Diablo Ferruccio was already in his old age. It was this car that was the last one that the creator of the company personally released. And exactlyDiablo managed to break the 300 km/h mark on the speedometer.
Hidden Problems
Despite such a resounding success, the biography of Ferruccio Lamborghini also knew bad times. During the development and release of Countach, the company experienced financial difficulties. In connection with this, the company was first sold to the American concern Chrysler, after which Lamborghini was bought by the Indian company Megatech.
Only after the death of the founder, the company gained financial stability and a patron in the person of AUDI AG. Thus, the brand returned to its homeland, to the European region.
From tractors to supercars
Many believe that it is impossible to repeat the success of Lamborghini. Indeed, such stories are very rare. When a small tractor manufacturing company grows into a large automobile concern. Plus, the dream of Ferruccio, to which he went all his life, is coming true. The last model under his leadership was the Diablo. Ferruccio Lamborghini passed away in 1996.
