In order to find out why a new cathedral is needed in a particular place, it does not hurt to figure out what it is all about. It is clear to everyone that this is a temple. But how does it differ from other similar buildings? Let's clarify.

What is this

It turns out that the main distinguishing feature of such a structure is that it houses the most important place, that is, the pulpit. This word comes from Latin and means "throne", "chair". Who is this important place for? Of course, for the bishop.

The pulpit is not always in sight. It is removed and installed only when there is a special service ahead. Not every cathedral can be a cathedral. But if he was awarded this honorary title, then it will remain with him forever. Moreover, the bishop is not obliged to serve only in this church. He may decide to build another building, and then a new cathedral will appear in some city.

Start off

Such a temple, for example, will soon be erected in Barnaul. Now the main one in Barnaul is the Cathedral of the Intercession. It was built in the 40s with the status of a cathedral.

DuringOn his last visit to the Altai Territory, Patriarch Kirill consecrated the place where a new cathedral will soon be built. This site is located in the Oktyabrsky district, next to the Transmash Palace of Culture and the Solnechny Veter park. It is interesting that this place was not chosen immediately - initially there were three options for sites that could accommodate a new cathedral in Barnaul.

It should be said that it will be dedicated to the Savior Not Made by Hands, and after the completion of construction it will be called the Spassky Cathedral

Finding the temple

At the construction site there is now a stone with a copy of the tablet with an inscription consecrated by Patriarch Kirill installed on it. Funds will be allocated for the construction from the local, as well as the regional and, in addition, the federal budgets, as well as personal funds from the Russian Orthodox Church.

A new cathedral in Chelyabinsk will soon be built. It will bear the name of the Nativity of Christ. The spacious temple can accommodate three thousand parishioners. In the summer of 2016, Metropolitan Nikodim held a prayer service in honor of the founding of the temple. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Chelyabinsk. After the Metropolitan placed a special commemorative letter in the capsule, it was walled up in the eastern wall of the future cathedral.

Nonexistent temple

And in one of the cities of Russia there is a relatively new cathedral, which does not exist. The fact is that it was built and then destroyed. Currently on itthere is a square, and underground there is a basement and the foundation of the ruined cathedral, which has survived to this day. To see it with your own eyes, you have to go to the city of Vyborg.

Earlier, a monument to Stalin was erected in this park on the site of the temple. And the cathedral was destroyed in the middle of the 20th century. Although even the Leningrad Commission for the Protection of Monuments at that time considered it a valuable architectural object. And indeed it is. It was built in the 19th century. The reason for this was that the old church could no longer accept all the parishioners.

Therefore, according to the project of Eduard Dippel, a new cathedral was built, which was consecrated in 1893. The neo-Gothic cathedral now accommodated 1,800 parishioners. The city of Vyborg, undoubtedly, was decorated with a beautiful and majestic temple. An organ with 4 registers was installed in the cathedral. And already in 1929 it was replaced by a more powerful one, which became one of the largest in Northern Europe. He already had 76 registers.

From different sides

A high bell tower was installed on the western side of the cathedral. At the entrance to the cathedral from 1908 to 1940 there was a monument dedicated to Mikael Agricola, who translated the Bible into Finnish, was an educator and the first bishop of Finland who was a Lutheran.

The fate of this monument is interesting. During the Patriotic War, it was lost, but in 1993 the city was donated a copy from the bust of Agricola, located in Turku. Now it is in the lobby of the Alvar A alto Library. During the civil war, the dead residents of Vyborg were buriedfrom the south side of the cathedral. In 1919, a monument to the hero was erected at this place, which was destroyed. But in its place is currently a memorial plate, which was installed in 1993. And in the 40s, people who died in the Patriotic War were buried near the walls of the temple. Although the cathedral itself was already almost destroyed after the bombing. In the 50s, what was left of the cathedral was completely dismantled.

Not only here

A new cathedral has recently opened in Paris. It is located on the Quai Branly. The plot of land for the construction of the temple was purchased in 2010. Construction began in 2015 and completed in 2016. The Christian Trinity Cathedral symbolizes the closeness of the cultures of France and Russia. Previously, the cathedral in Paris was a small temple. At first, the garage served as a room for him, and then he moved to the 1st floor of the building. Now the new building is not just a cathedral, but also a cultural and educational center.

Whatever the temple - Christian or Lutheran - is the meeting place of man with God. People gather on its territory to pray and find support from higher powers. It is remarkable that in our time new cathedrals are being built. This means that people are striving to find their Temple.
