Terms indicating kinship are perhaps one of the most ancient words in any dialect. Slavic terms originated in Ancient Russia and amaze with their diversity. The name of family ties can be conditionally divided into three groups: blood - when there is a common ancestor, property - based on marriage unions, and spiritual kinship: nepotism and twinning.

Direct blood relationship

Blood relationships in neighboring generations are determined by parents (father, mother) and children (son, daughter, illegitimate children).

The father is called a man, and the mother - a woman in relation to theirchildren. Accordingly, a son and a daughter are a boy and a girl in relation to their parents. Blood relationship through the generation is grandfathers, grandmothers and grandchildren with granddaughters. Kinship through two generations by analogy is determined by great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers, great-grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Indirect consanguinity

Blood indirect relationship is no longer vertical, but rather horizontal, that is, it spreads along the branches, along the lines of father and mother. A brother is a son in relation to other children of his parents, and a sister is, respectively, a daughter. Cousins are the children of an uncle and aunt, second cousins are the children of a cousin and an aunt, fourth cousins of second cousins, and so on. An uncle, in turn, is a man in relation to the children of his sister and brother, and an aunt is a woman in relation to them. Nephew and niece are children of uncle and aunt.
