Red oak (Quercus rubra) is a not very tall tree with a conical crown. Usually does not exceed a height of more than twenty meters. The branches are quite rare, the leaves are dark green, turning bright crimson in autumn. In landscape design, it is used separately from other trees. It is worth transplanting a red oak if it has not yet reached two meters. Otherwise, the plant will be very sick. This oak is native to Canada.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, it began to be planted everywhere in Eastern Europe for landscaping. But this ornamental tree can pose a serious threat to native plants. After all, the red oak is much more unpretentious than other plants, its seeds are quickly spread by animals. Therefore, very soon it began to crowd out European tree species and thereby damage forestry.

This tree is very durable. Under favorable conditions, it can live up to two hundred years. Grows quickly, especially the first twenty years. The bark of a young plant is gray and smooth, older trees are cracked and much darker in color. The trunk of old specimens reaches one and a half meters in diameter. Young shoots are reddish in color. They are not very long, darken over the years. Red oak leaves are long (up to twenty-five centimeters) and wide. This tree blooms with short small earrings, which are collected in bunches. The fruits are spherical brown acorns. In some European countries they are used as food. They taste like chestnuts and, if cooked properly, are very satisfying and fragrant. In North America, acorns are fed to animals, particularly pigs. Young trees bear fruit poorly. Red oak thrives best in moderately moist soil, loves light and does not respond well to strong darkening. Frost-resistant and slightly susceptible to various diseases. Needs crown formation. In cities, these trees filter dirty air well and protect the city from noise. They can be planted even in places where there is a strong gas pollution due to transport.
