Stanislas Wawrinka is a professional tennis player from Switzerland. Stan has managed to win three Grand Slam tournaments during his career.
Career start
Stanislas Wawrinka started playing tennis at the age of six. Already at fifteen, he stopped paying attention to his studies and concentrated on this sport. He held his first official tournament at the age of fourteen. The debut of the Swiss came at the international challenger among juniors.
In 2003, Wawrinka won the junior French Open. This happened just a year after his professional career began. In the middle of the summer of the same year, he made his debut at the adult level. His first game was against Jean-Rene Lisnar, which ended in defeat.
First trophies
In 2004, Stanislas Wawrinka played his debut game at the Davis Cup, after which the Swiss won tournaments in Barcelona and at home in Geneva. Stan entered the top 100 of the professional tennis rankings in 2005 after reaching the ATP quarterfinals in Barcelona.
First victory in ATP tournament finalshappened in 2006 in Umag, where on the way to the final game, Stanislas defeated Martić, Cilic, del Potro and Volandri. Serb Novak Djokovic became the rival of the Swiss in the decisive match. In the first set, the score was 6-6, and Novak did not enter the tie-break due to injury.
Grand Slam
The 2013 season for Wawrinka can still be considered one of the best. At the beginning of the year, he was able to win the tournament in Chennai in pairs. At the Australian Open, Sten lost to Djokovic. After that, Wawrinka took part in several ATP competitions, where he reached the final once.
In Oeiras, Stanislas won his first singles trophy in two years. At the ATP in Madrid, the Swiss lost to Rafael Nadal in the decisive match. It was Rafa who became a stumbling block for Stanislas at the French Open.
At Wimbledon, Stan could not show the proper level of play and ended it at an early stage. Stanislas approached the last Grand Slam tournament in good shape and stopped a step away from the final match.
In January 2014, Stan won the first Grand Slam. At that tournament, he broke the resistance of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. By the way, the victory over Nadal was the first for Wawrinka in thirteen meetings between these athletes.
A year later, Stanislas won his second Grand Slam title. They became the French Open. After the disastrous matches on hard, which took place after the Australian Championship, Wawrinka prepared for the main start of the clay competition and outplayedNovak Djokovic. For the Serbian, this was the only defeat in major tournaments in 2015.
The third and so far last Grand Slam victory came in the fall of 2016 when Stanislas won the American Open. In the final, Novak Djokovic was again defeated, who at that time occupied the first line in the ranking of the best tennis players in the world. After losing the first game in a tie-break, Stanislas won the next three.
This year, Wawrinka has yet to win a single major Grand Slam tournament. In addition, although Stan reached the final match at Roland Garros, he was only his shadow during the entire tournament.

At the moment, Stanislas Wawrinka ranks third in the ranking of professional tennis players. Spaniard Nadal is about 1,000 points behind second place, and more than 3,000 points behind Briton Andy Murray.
