This is a classic Soviet station, decorated in the spirit of that time. It was opened on 1950-01-01. It is a three-vaulted pylon station of deep laying (-53 m). It has 1 straight island-type platform. The image of this station was present on the stamps of the USSR in 1950.

Not far from the metro station "Taganskaya"a service branch begins on the circle line, which connects it with the Kalininskaya and Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines.

History

The project of the station appeared in 1934. Since then it has changed several times. The construction almost led to the demolition of the Church of St. Nicholas, which is located above one of the halls of the underground facility. In 1944, the builders were going to destroy the temple, and had already demolished part of it, when it was decided to preserve this building, due to the assignment of the status of an architectural monument to it.

The image of the newly built station is preserved on stamps of the USSR Post issued in 1950, worth 40 kopecks and 1 ruble. From the images, it can be concluded that the main hall has not changed much since then.

The bottom of the pylons is finished with white marble, and the plinth is black with white veins. White embossed tiles were used to decorate the track walls. There are also marble columns. The flooring features gray granite and black gabbro slabs, as well as red granite star-framed inlays.

The architects did a good job on the chandeliers. They are multi-tracked, twisted, with blue glass vases. Previously, at the southern end of the station there was a composition in the form of a sculpture of Stalin, surrounded by workers and children, under which there were marble tablets depicting important Soviet cities. Later, it was replaced with a portrait of Lenin, and was removed during the construction of the crossing for technical reasons.
