Port Zarubino (Primorsky Territory) is a dynamically developing maritime transport hub designed to speed up and simplify trade with Far Eastern partners. Thanks to the construction of a direct railway line connecting Zarubino and the city of Hunchun, the port can become a "sea gate" for northeast China.
Gateway to Russia
The unique position of Primorsky Krai, the proximity of the "industrial tigers" - China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea - have allowed the region to become the eastern gate of the Russian Federation. The Sea of Japan, like a giant bridge, connects economically powerful neighboring countries.
Despite the presence of already existing large port agglomerations in Vladivostok, Nakhodka and other cities, it was decided to build the Zarubino port as close as possible to the transport arteries of the partner countries. Just a few tens of kilometers away are the industrial zones of China, Korea, and a little further - Japan. The port is intended to become the strategic center of the Primorye international transport corridor.
History of Creation
Under constructionthe port of Zarubino is not in an empty place. Back in 1972, the Troitsa fishing port was laid here. In the 80s, it was already a stable operating complex, an important industrial facility in the Khasan district. With the collapse of the USSR and the acceleration of maritime trade, the port was transformed from a fishing port into a commercial one.
In the 2000s, a decision was made to reformat and upgrade the worn-out infrastructure. Complete the construction of new terminals, modernize logistics, and repair transport routes. In fact, Zarubino is becoming a new port with rethought goals and objectives.
Strategic position
The port of Zarubino is located in the most southwestern part of Primorsky Krai, on the shores of Troitsa Bay. It, like a wheel, connects at one point the spoke-roads from Primorye, the Chinese province of Jilin and North Korea. Convenient water area allows ships of various tonnage and sizes to enter. Distances to industrial centers:
- to Vladivostok (RF) – 200 km;
- to Hunchun (PRC) – 70 km;
- to Sonbong (DPRK) – 65 km.
Zarubino is connected with checkpoints Makhalino, Kraskino, Khasan.
Description
Port Zarubino (Primorsky Krai), the photo of which you see in the article, offers a number of attractive conditions for transshipment of goods. Due to the favorable bottom topography, coastline and geographical position, Trinity Bay practically does not freeze in winter. In stormy weather it is a reliable shelter for ships, providing natural wind protectionwithout the construction of hydraulic structures.
Year-round navigation in the water area without icebreaking support significantly saves loading / unloading time and reduces port costs. Vessels with an 8-meter draft and a length of up to 172 meters can approach the berths.
In 2000, a passenger international terminal with an area of 2,600 m2 was put into operation2. An international cargo-passenger ferry line connecting Zarubino and the South Korean city of Sokcho has been established. By the way, the port has a multilateral permanent cargo-passenger checkpoint.
Features
The port of Zarubino works around the clock. Here they provide services for replenishing fuel reserves, accept oily and waste water from ships, offer fresh water, and provisions. Minor repairs, diving inspection of ship hulls are being carried out.
11 berths have been announced, but 7 large berths with a total length of 840 m are actually operating. Mooring depths are 7.5-9.5 m. The maximum dimensions of ships serviced directly at the sea terminal are 172 x 23 x 8 m. Passengers are served and a variety of cargoes, including hazard class 4.
Given the intensive import of Korean and Japanese cars, the port is equipped with a storage area where 4,500 cars can be stored at the same time. There are also platforms:
- container;
- timber;
- scrap metal;
- transshipment of heavy equipment (bulldozers, truck cranes, excavators) from Korea.
Fishing port
Zarubinskaya base of the fleet, serving fishing vessels, has two berths with a total length of 191 m with depths of 6-9 m. Maximum dimensions of trawlers: 100 x 15 x 5.5 m.
In 2012, a large refrigeration complex was reconstructed with a storage temperature of up to -25 degrees. It is capable of simultaneously receiving and storing 12,000 tons of seafood. The base accepts and stores aquatic bioresources both fresh and processed, facilitates their transportation and sale.
Problems and prospects
Port of Zarubino is in the process of formation and optimization of logistics routes. With the maximum possible cargo turnover of 1.2 million tons, the practical implementation is still less than expected. The inclusion of the port in the list of priority development areas should contribute to dynamic growth.
Projects for the construction of grain and container terminals are being implemented. According to the plans, by 2020 the grain turnover should reach up to 10 million tons, and the total cargo turnover - 60 million tons. Special hopes for the Maritime Silk Road project. Chinese partners consider Zarubino a key hub designed to bring together businessmen from Primorye and China. And the construction of a narrow-gauge railway line according to Chinese standards should contribute to the fastest delivery of goods from Hunchun to the port of Zarubino.

Port of Odessa: basic information, history, activities of the port
Many are interested in the question of when the Odessa port was built. The beginning of construction dates back to the end of the 18th century, or rather, to 1794.
