Video: Wandering birds: who are they? Birds flying to warmer climes

All birds lead a different lifestyle. The main characteristic by which they are divided into several types is migration. Scientists name 3 species: sedentary birds - live in the same territory, migratory - fly away to warmer climes with cold weather, nomadic birds - move from place to place depending on the amount of provisions. We will focus on the latter.
Let's figure it out
So, which birds are nomadic? These birds, regardless of the season of laying eggs, constantly fly from one place to another in search of food.
Birds fly short distances and take different routes each time. The time between flights depends entirely on the amount of food in the new place.
Good to know
Thanks to this characteristic biological feature, nomadic birds populate all forests, and they are also the first inhabitants of new plantations. They consider their homeland the area where they breed. From year to year they try to return to continue their offspring where they hatched and grew themselves. Nomadic birds do not correspond to the well-known phrase: A bird, whereif he wants, he will build his nest there.”
Such integrity in nesting is very appropriate for forest rangers. After all, they are terribly voracious and are in constant search of new food. Thus, the number of pests that are in the forest where they live is reduced. In addition to protecting the forest, nomadic birds take care of the agricultural harvest. In winter, they eat weeds and their seeds in the fields.
Nomadic birds. List:
- Goldfinch. The forehead, cheeks and throat are painted bright red; crown, nape, wings - black with a yellow spot; the cheeks at the back of the head and the ends of the wings are white. Goldfinches are the biggest lovers of weed seeds, and feed their offspring with insects.
- Chizh. It does not leave its nest until the big frosts. At the end of December, having gathered in a flock, siskins fly south, but as soon as it gets warmer, they return. Basically, they settle in a spruce forest, sometimes in a pine or deciduous forest. The lifestyle of siskins is similar to goldfinches.
- Klest. Settles in a coniferous forest in the thick of branches. It has a bright red color, which turns into a reddish-brown, wings and tail are brown. Its diet includes coniferous seeds.
- Bullfinch. As soon as the snow fell, you can see this bird outside the window. They settle everywhere: forests, parks, gardens, boulevards. They are easy to spot because of their brilliant black and bright red color. The bullfinch feeds on hardwood seeds, weed grains and berries.
- Whistle. Many call this bird beautiful. It is painted in ash gray withreddish tint. The main difference is a large crest on the head. Eats different berries. Differs in great gluttony, in a day it can eat berries with a total weight greater than its body weight.
- Woodpecker. The large and small spotted woodpeckers are outwardly identical in coloring, they only differ in size. Their difference is a red cap on the crown of the head.
- Nututatch. This bird loves to run quickly up and down the tree trunk. Very noisy, her repertoire includes many loud sounds.
- Jay. Reddish-brown body, long tail, blue wings with black stripes, wide crest. Grow to the size of jackdaws.
- White stork. It is painted white, only the ends of the wings are black. Long neck and legs, thin beak. Storks live for about 20 years.
- Quail. It has an ocher-colored plumage, there are dark and light striped brown spots.
- Powder. Medium sized bird. Short neck and large head. The plumage is gray-brown. The beak is dark brown, the legs are dark gray.
- Reel. The bird is singing, very often flies. Growth from a simple sparrow. In winter, the color is brown-gray, and in summer it is black.
- Tie. Slightly larger than a sparrow. It lives on the banks of rivers, lakes, seas. The top of the body is brownish-gray, the lower part is white. On the inside of the wing there is a white stripe, it is visible even in flight. The beak is orange-yellow. The nest is knocked out in the sand itself.
Birds flying to warmer climes
With the onset of autumn, we see flocks in the sky that fly away to winter in warmer climes. Here it isthere are migratory birds; every year they leave their nests, but with the onset of spring they return to them again. Their number is one third of the total number of all birds.
As for the specific answer to the question of which birds are migratory, we can name the following: swallow, thrush, duck, crane, lapwing, oriole, chaffinch and others. Frost-resistant ones remain wintering: crow, dove, sparrow, titmouse. The reason for their flights is quite simple - due to the cold weather, the amount of food is sharply reduced, and the birds are in danger of extinction. If they want to survive, they fly south for the winter. Despite the long and difficult flight, instinct tells them that more of them will survive in this way than after a cold winter.
Important note
The flight time is always different, it is regulated by the weather. The direction and strength of the wind is more taken into account than the air temperature. Birds flying to warmer climes are well oriented by the stars and the sun, so they fly with ease.
Most of them return after winter to their original place to their nest. This was proved by scientists who ringed birds and observed them for several years.
Small conclusion
Watching the flights of birds is very interesting, because their organisms exhibit unique properties during migration. Migratory and nomadic birds show their endurance during flights, and their internal organs work to the maximum. Now you know how various birds behave indifferent seasons, and what is the purpose of their flights.
