The events that led to the death of people on board the aircraft are called an accident, disaster or tragedy. Sometimes a plane crash may mean the loss of one or more people, as well as the disappearance of the aircraft from the radar, without subsequent contact. A plane crash can also be marked by the death of people during an emergency landing.

For the first time, people started talking about aviation accidents as soon as the era of aeronautics began, in the 19th century. Initially, the number of accidents and casu alties was relatively small, but only until such time as the aircraft did notbecome a part of mass consumption. Not only did the air transportation system develop, but safety standards improved as well. But there were still victims.

In 1940, when mass air travel became in demand, the number of victims also increased. In the mid-50s, aircraft were improved and safety standards were raised, and the number of accidents decreased accordingly, but only until the expansion of aircraft into third world countries began. Only a decade later, new devices appeared on the market that could provide a safe flight to any state.

The next wave of aviation accidents swept the world in the 70s. Then the demand for international air travel increased, the number of seats on board increased, and the world first learned what terrorism is. Safety standards were again revised, on-board equipment was improved, the number of victims by the mid-80s had halved.

The next 15 years, the number of air accidents increased again, as wide-body aircraft proliferated.

According to statistics, a plane crash is an event that cannot be predicted, but everything possible can be done to prevent it. According to 60 years of practice, the number of accidents has decreased from 616 accidents per year to 28.

But no matter how much humanity tries to secure its movements, tragedy always comes suddenly, and the biggest aviation accidents are the bestproof of this:

  • Japan. 1985 Flight 123 was on a domestic flight from Tokyo to Osaka. After takeoff, the systems went out of control, the plane crashed on the mountain slopes. As a result of the tragedy, 520 people became victims.
  • India. Two airliners collided in the air - Boeing-747 and Il-76. As a result, the IL lost control, and the Boeing disintegrated in the air, killing 349 people.
  • France. In 1974, the worst aviation accident in the country's history occurred. Turkish Airlines Flight 981 was heading Istanbul-Paris-London. After the plane took off from the Paris airport, the cargo hatch opened. As a result, all control systems were damaged, and after 72 seconds the plane crashed, 346 people became victims of the accident.
  • Saudi Arabia. On board the plane, which started from Riyadh airport, the luggage compartment caught fire. The device was forced to return, but, having landed, the plane continued its movement, leaving the firefighters behind. There were 301 people on board, all burned alive.
  • Spain. One of the worst disasters in human history occurred in the Spanish island province of Tenerife. In 1977, two large airliners collided during takeoff, resulting in nearly 600 deaths. This catastrophe can be considered not only the most terrible, but the most unexpected and ridiculous.

  • 2015 year. From the radar almost immediately after takeoff, the flight disappeared, which was heading along the course of Sharm el-Sheikh - St. Petersburg. Subsequently, only fragments were found in the suburbs of Nekhel. As a result of the incident, 224 people tragically died. The youngest passenger was a 10-month-old girl, Dasha Gromova, her photo became a symbol of the tragedy. Among all the plane crashes that are known to mankind, this incident killed the most Russian citizens.

About 138,000 aircraft ply daily in the heavenly streams. No airline gives a 100% guarantee, however, air travel is considered the safest. Crashing skies - aviation accidents - can happen at any time, but it still happens 10 times less often than an accident.
