Perm - the backbone and s alt of the earth, as the city is unofficially called - is a major industrial center not only in the Urals, but throughout Russia. Today, the Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the city district, the river port on the Kama is of no less important logistical importance, and once upon a time, the first railway in the Urals was laid here.
Perm is the backbone of the state in the industrial sense. The population, area, geographical location, territorial division, infrastructure and current problems of the urban district will be briefly discussed below.
Geographic location
A day in the European part of Russia begins with Perm. The name of the city, which is located on the edge of Europe, in translation from the Vepsian language means "distant land". Perm is characterized by an extensive network of small rivers, extensive natural resources and a large number of green spaces. The urban district is located on the banks of the Kama River, which is connected to five European seas.
Population of modern Perm
The population of the urban district of Perm is 1,041,876 inhabitants, 991,162 people live directly in the city. In the last few years, the number of Permians has been increasing year by year, although before that, from 1990 to 2005, there was a decrease in the population. Perm reached the million mark in 2012, although the city received the status of a millionaire in terms of population before that - in 1979.
The national composition of Perm as of 2002 is as follows:
- Russians (eighty-eight percent);
- Tatars (four percent);
- Ukrainians (one and six percent);
- Bashkirs (one percent);
- Komi-Permyaks (one percent);
- Udmurts (eight tenths of a percent);
- Belarusians (six tenths of a percent);
- other nationalities (two whole and one hundredth percent).
Area and territorial divisions
Perm is divided into seven city districts. The area of the settlement allows you to accommodate countless residential areas, urban forests and recreation parks, as well as a powerful complex of industrial enterprises within the city district. The Kama River acts as a kind of city-forming axis, dividing the city into right-bank and left-bank parts.
The territory of Perm is almost 800 sq. km.
Districts of the citycounty
The historical and business center of Perm is the Leninsky district. There are libraries, a philharmonic society, theaters, galleries and exhibition halls, several higher educational institutions, representative offices of government agencies and industrial enterprises. Leninsky district occupies 47.5 square meters. km, which is almost six percent of the total urban area.
Ordzhonikidzevsky district occupies 22% of the area of Perm. In this administrative-territorial unit, mainly industrial enterprises and the private sector are located. There are three and a half thousand private houses in the Ordzhonikidze district, and only eight hundred and fifty apartment buildings.
The rest of the city of Perm - Kirovsky, Industrial, Sverdlovsky, Dzerzhinsky, Motovilikhinsky - are evenly built up with multi-apartment and private houses, as well as industrial enterprises and social facilities, that is, hospitals, schools and kindergartens, shops. Among urban forests, of which Perm (the area of the latter in total is almost 34 thousand hectares) has vast territories, only the Sverdlovsk region stands out, densely built up with residential buildings.
Infrastructure of the settlement
The main problems of Perm in the field of housing and communal services are:
- lower affordable housing construction;
- low availability of buying their own living space for citizens with low and middle income;
- insufficientfinancing capital repairs of the housing stock from the local budget;
- need for significant investment by the municipal authorities to stabilize the housing and communal sector.
Perm is distinguished by the correct planning of quarters and streets in the center of the settlement. The area of the city is also covered by a dense road network, so there are no problems with the ease of movement of personal vehicles. Traffic is moderate but heavy during peak hours.
A significant share of the movement is public transport. More than a thousand buses, almost two hundred trams and one hundred and twenty trolleybuses - Perm has such a composition of urban transport. The area of the city is also served by fixed-route taxis plying in twelve directions.
The expansion of rail transport has been announced as the main direction for the development of the city's infrastructure. Thus, within the framework of the Perm Tram project, 45 new trams were purchased, which are characterized by a low floor, especially convenient for people with limited mobility and parents with prams, as well as the availability of Wi-Fi.
