Unfortunately, more and more often we hear about new disasters and accidents. The twenty-first century - the time of technology and development, can also be safely called the century of disasters. Despite the fact that humanity has reached unprecedented heights in technology and industry, it seems that not all inventions have benefited people. Or maybe the reason is that they have not learned how to properly use these benefits?

The moment of the collision of the ship and the barge on the Irtysh

On a hot summer day, August 17, 2013, many residents of Omsk decided to go on vacation on a sightseeing boat. At 13:00 he departed from the Omsk berth to carry out his next sightseeing flight. Mothers with babies, elderly spouses celebrating their wedding anniversary, and many other passengers did not even imagine that a collision between a ship and a cargo ship on the Irtysh would happen soon. After most of the way, near the village of Novaya Stanitsa, the ship and the cargo ship collided on the Irtysh. At that moment, all passengers felt a strong jolt, as a result of which the motor ship "Polesie-8" received a hole and partially began to go under water.

To the dismay of the fifty-six passengers on board, no rescue manual was forthcoming from the captain. As it turned out later, no one saw him at all at the time of the accident and after it. Help arrived in time from the workers of the cargo barge and from people resting on the shore, who until the moment of the collision, without suspecting anything, were grilling shish kebabs. Seeing what had happened, many, taking boats, rushed to help, thus transporting some of the victims to the shore even before the ambulance arrived.

Victims of the tragedy

Unfortunately, the collision of a ship and a dry cargo ship on the Irtysh led to the fact that eight people could not be saved, although, according to preliminary data, there were only four dead. At first, it was not possible to find six more people who were listed as missing. To date, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has refuted this initial information, stating with confidence that there are no missing people. Passengers who suffered from the collision were immediately hospitalized in emergency hospital No. 1. On that day, the hospital was simply overcrowded. Concerned doctors and relatives of the victims scurried everywhere, every now and then a stretcher flickered in the corridor.

Terrible Consequences

All surgeons were immediately called to work. Meanwhile, other doctors examined the sick. The collision of a ship and a dry cargo ship on the Irtysh… This day will not be forgotten by many for a very long time: everyone has wet clothes, besides, they are still covered in blood. It is difficult to imagine how much shock each passenger experienced. As you know, immediately after the collision, water rushed into the ship with unprecedented force. It was extremely difficult to take any conscious rescue actions, because the accident of the ship on the Irtysh was a complete surprise.

As the survey showed, many of the victims had fractures (of limbs and ribs) of varying complexity, concussion and lacerations were found in almost every passenger injured in the crash. Not to mention the emotional trauma that will remain after this terrible event. Unfortunately, eleven more people were in a rather serious condition after the accident. Some of them needed really serious operations, which could only be carried out in high quality in Moscow.

For this purpose, two helicopters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were immediately sent to Omsk so that they could deliver the wounded to the capital in the near future. A rescue operation was carried out at the scene, in which six vessels were involved, including even a floating crane. The operational headquarters tried to find outpossible reasons for the collision of the ship and the cargo ship on the Irtysh. Many argue that the responsibility lies with the helmsman of the pleasure craft, as it turned out that the disaster occurred due to a significant deviation from the pre-planned course.

Tangled Investigation

The police said that the captain was intoxicated at the time of the collision, although this information was later denied. As mentioned above, the responsibility may lie with the helmsman, due to a significant deviation of the ship from the course. Be that as it may, the perpetrator of the tragedy faces a prison sentence of up to seven years.

The meeting held at the mayor's office on this issue brought some results. It was decided to fully pay for the funeral of the dead and pay compensation to their families in the amount of two hundred thousand rubles. Victims will receive only fifty to one hundred thousand. Some of them are going to go to court to punish the company that owns the crashed ship.

As we already know, two versions of the disaster are currently being considered. The first is the wrong and unskilled actions of the crew of the ship, the second is the failure or malfunction of the equipment. Be that as it may, the dead cannot be returned, but the perpetrators must be punished so that in the future there will be as few such incidents as possible.
