The issue of participation in the exhibition of a particular country is decided at the state level. There is always a tense struggle for the venue of the EXPO, which is reminiscent of the competition between countries to host the Olympics.

A bit of history: the first EXPO

Great Britain has become a leading industrialcountry during the reign of Queen Victoria (1827-1901). Her husband - Prince Albert - wanted to glorify his country, show the whole world the greatness of Britain and its success in industry, for this he decided to hold a world exhibition. At that time, such an event was the largest in history - it was called the Great Exhibition, and today it is known under the abbreviation EXPO.

The opening of the event took place on May 1 in 1851. The venue was Hyde Park in London. For this event, the Crystal Palace was specially erected, which consisted entirely of cast iron and glass. The exhibition featured exhibits demonstrating the achievements of states: a huge steam engine, all kinds of machines, silk samples, original sculptures, etc.

EXPO has become a source of solid income. That year, more than 6 million people became its guests. It was forbidden to smoke at the exhibition, the organizers installed public toilets on the territory. At the end of the exhibition, the building of the Crystal Palace was dismantled and erected again, but already in the south of London. However, the monumental building failed to survive the fire in 1936.

Exhibits that made their countries famous

As mentioned earlier, London's Crystal Palace has become the symbol of Great Britain. In 1889, the EXPO exhibition was held in France - the Eiffel Tower was erected for this event, which is still a symbol of Paris. After the exhibition, it was supposed to be dismantled, but it gained such great popularity among tourists that it collected in a shortterm is the amount that paid off all costs. In the first six months it was visited by at least 2 million people. Today, millions of tourists come to see it.

In 1929, Spain took the baton - the Plaza de España in Seville became the symbol of this large-scale event. This architectural ensemble is the visiting card of the country; every year it is visited by a large number of tourists.

After 29 years, a new miracle of architecture, located in Brussels, was presented at EXPO. The amazing Atomimum has become a symbol of the atomic age. Architect Arne Waterkeyn designed a model of the iron atom, which he enlarged 160 billion times. In the upper ball there is a restaurant and an observation deck, which offers beautiful views of the city. Other EXPO pavilions, and there are five more, host exhibition halls, always ready to surprise tourists.

What is EXPO, the people of Canada are well aware. The widely known residential complex "Habitat 67" was presented to the public in 1967. This masterpiece of engineering art looks like a blockage of children's blocks. In reality, these are 354 cubes that are connected in a unique way. The building has 147 apartments.

EXPO at VDNH

VDNH EXPO is an important subdivision of Russia's main exhibition. Its main task is to supervise the congress and exhibition activities.

Every year more than 70 countries participate in the event, more than 100 expositions are exhibited and about25,000 exhibits. All projects are aimed at demonstrating the latest achievements in he althcare, housing and communal services, agriculture, etc.

Expo 2017

The venue of the exhibition is determined by voting of countries that are members of the International Exhibition Bureau. In 2017, such an honor fell to Kazakhstan. At the final stage of voting, Astana won the majority of votes (103 out of 161), leaving its main rival - the city of Liege (Belgium) - behind.

This year the exhibition is planned to be held under the slogan "Future Energy". It will highlight one of the most important issues of the XXI century - alternative energy sources.

From July to September, Kazakhstan will host more than 100 countries and dozens of international organizations. This year, achievements and possible development prospects in the field of renewable energy sources will be demonstrated, the main advantages of which should be environmental cleanliness and low cost.
