Already two hundred years before the birth of Giorgio Vasari, Italy was brought up on the ideals of humanism. A capable thirteen-year-old teenager was noticed. Thanks to Michelangelo, who noticed him, Giorgio Vasari was sent to the famous artist Andrea del Sarto. Need for moneyforces him to leave Arezzo, head to Pisa and then wander around Italy in search of work. Fortune smiled on the young artist - he met Ippolito de' Medici, one of his patrons in Florence, and the duke took Vasari with him to Rome.

But this is how the painter sees his patron. In general, Vasari does not follow nature, does not seek harmony, but puts everything into the accuracy of lines that give volume, and into exaggerated expressiveness. Vasari Giorgio constantly uses these techniques. Paintings among contemporaries are popular. But they have not stood the test of time and are now of historical rather than artistic interest.

Vasari's great creation in Florence

For each short story, the writer carefully collected the smallest facts from the life of the artist. Each article contains a portrait, sometimes made by Vasari himself. The life writer tried to trace the connection of each artist with the people. If he describes the images of biblical characters created by one or another master, then Giorgio Vasari seeks to connect these images with the daily life of the artist. The book opens with the biography and work of Giotto, and ends with Michelangelo. But the second edition, which came out eighteen years later, is supplemented by corrections, clarifications, and new biographies. In total, about two hundred of them have been published. This work of Messire Vasari determined the path of art history as a science for many centuries. His view of art has not lost its relevance even today.

The master died in Florence in 1574.
