A briefing is a short briefing for journalists that allows them to navigate the program of an event and understand some aspects that should be considered when covering current news (programs).

Currently, almost every press conference is called a briefing, but this is not correct. Indeed, even if you look into the encyclopedic dictionary (by the way, “briefing” is not in the dictionary of foreign words), you will find the following definition: “A briefing is the shortest possible press conference at which the position of the government on any issue is stated and expressed.”

But the briefing should not be taken as an attempt by the government, officials or the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to somehow influence the course of coverage of a popular action, summit, campaign. After all, a briefing is just an auxiliary tool (component) that facilitates their rather difficult work for journalists.

Briefing Forms

In Western countries, very often a briefing is a kind of breakfast with media representatives. But a press conference may well be an independent broadcast on television, especially if itsome general issues or global problems are solved within the framework.

Quite often there are situations when the TV workers themselves are the organizers of such press conferences, and then we can safely say that the meaning of the word briefing is expressed as an independent genre of analytical journalism.

In this case, the organizers invite a well-known politician or public figure, artist or musician to the studio so that he can express his point of view on some topical and lively discussed problem in society. And also, while the briefing is in progress, the significance of which is the presentation of opinion to the public through the media, the guest undertakes to answer related questions from the participants present.

During the process of recording a program or live broadcast, not only the organizers of the meeting and employees of the TV channel can ask questions, everyone present, as well as journalists from various print media, radio and TV programs have the right to ask the guest.

It is worth noting that such events are in high demand, since they almost always turn into a heated discussion that is interesting to viewers and affects the popularity of the TV channel that organized it.

Such discussions are often filled with real dramaturgy of developments, a collective search for a way out of existing situations, so this allows the program (program or TV channel) to attract a significant audience of TV viewers.

At the same time, you should always remember that when participating inIn such a briefing, any member of the public media present has exactly the same rights to receive information about the issue under discussion as any other member of the media. In case of urgent need, each member of the media participating in the press conference has the right to defend their rights and demand an exclusive interview with the guest of the TV program.
