The infamous White House (it is, in fact, the House of the Government of the Russian Federation) and the city hall are also considered the Government House in the capital. These are completely different buildings located in different places in Moscow. Let's get to know them two in this article.
House of the Government of the Russian Federation in Moscow
The House of the Government of the Russian Federation, the House of Soviets of Russia, the White House, the House of the Government of the RSFSR - the name of the same building, looking at the Moscow River and Free Russia Square. Its address is Krasnopresnenskaya embankment, 2.
This is a symmetrical building with a height of 102m (with a flagpole - 119m) with a total floor area of 172.7m2. It consists of three parts:
- A powerful base, lined with granite, with a main monumental staircase.
- Stylobate-type body, supplemented with side "wings".
- 20-storey tower. Previously, it was decorated with a clock that stopped during a tank shelling of the building. After the reconstruction, they were replaced by the coat of arms of the Russian Federation.
The building was built according to the project of a group of architects under the supervision of P. Steller and D. Chechulin from 1965 to1979 In the period 1981-1993. it housed the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR (later - the Russian Federation), the Committee of People's Control. In 1994, the building became the House of the Government of the Russian Federation, but many call it the House of the Government of Moscow.
Many Russians remember this building from the events of the "August coup" in 1991. Here the confrontation between the State Emergency Committee and supporters of Boris Yeltsin took place, here the future first President of the Russian Federation delivered his speech on the turret of a tank.
The building was dubbed the White House by journalists after the sad events of October 1993, when B. Yeltsin ordered the tanks of the Taman division to open fire on the building where the members of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation and the Congress of People's Deputies were. The burning House of the Government of Moscow, fired upon by tank salvos, was seen by millions of TV viewers from all over the world.
The building then went through a major renovation in 1993-1994. It was prudently surrounded by a massive fence around the entire perimeter in order to prevent mass actions near the White House.

The classicism style building was built in 1783 especially for the head of Moscow - Governor-General Zakhar Chernyshev. Then, redeemedcity treasury, it becomes the residence of all subsequent Moscow governors. In Soviet times, the Moscow City Council was located here. In 1944-1946. the building "grew" from 3 to 5 floors, so as not to "get lost" among the tall buildings of the renovated Tverskaya.
