The image of Dita Von Teese is unique from the point of view of modern show business. But the biography of a burlesque star is no less original, since usually actors, musicians and politicians are in the center of public attention, but not club dancers. How did the blonde Heather manage to turn into the stunning brunette Dita, who conquered Hollywood?
Early years: Dita Von Teese no makeup, blonde
Dita's real name is Heather Sweet. She was born in the small town of Rochester in the USA. Heather's family was far from show business: her father worked as a machinist, her mother worked as a manicurist.
Dita Von Teese likes to mention in interviews that she has Armenian roots. However, in her youth, her appearance had little in common with the Armenian: in school photographs, Dita Von Teese appears before us without makeup, and even with blond wheaten hair.
From early childhood, the girl studied ballet. At the age of 15, she already danced quite professionally. But Dita did not work out with ballet:I had to move to California with my parents and start working part-time. First, Heather Sweet worked in a pizzeria, then moved to work in a lingerie store.
Then Mrs. Sweet went off to college to study costume history. However, after graduating from college, Dita did not get a job as a costume designer in the film industry, but returned to the lingerie store again. It couldn't go on like this anymore, and the girl decided to simultaneously earn money in nightclubs, doing what she did best - dancing.
Burlesque
Heather Sweet did not immediately become the queen of burlesque. At 19, she began her career as a dancer in a strip club. Knowledge in the field of historical costume came in handy: Heather came up with an unforgettable image for herself. Immediately, a pseudonym was found for the new star of the dance floor: Mrs. Sweet called herself "Dita" (that was the name of her favorite actress of the 20s). However, Heather did not like to dance a banal striptease, and she took up the revival of the burlesque genre.
Burlesque is an erotic show with a lot of theatricality. Heather, under the pseudonym "Dita", began to make memorable numbers with bright surroundings and vintage costumes. Dita Von Teese without makeup, with makeup, in clothes and without looked very impressive. Therefore, soon the rumor about an unusual dancer spread throughout America. Dita began to be invited by musicians to their video clips, famous magazines began to put her photo on the cover.
As for the most famous numbers of the dancer, this is undoubtedly the “Martini Glass”, as well as a dance withhuge fans. These feather fans are recognized as the largest in the world.
Model Career
Dita Von Teese without makeup remains as attractive to the opposite sex as with him. Therefore, it is not surprising that she appeared three times on the cover of Playboy magazine. By the way, she owes her pseudonym to the editors of this magazine, since until 1999 Heather Sweet was known simply as Dita. However, the editors needed her full name, and then the dancer took the surname von Treese. An error was made during publication, so "von Treez" turned into "von Teese".
Dita most often appears on the covers of fetish magazines in corsets and underwear. By the way, thanks to the constant wearing of a corset, Dita's waist has decreased from 65 to 56 cm. From now on, when the dancer tightens the lacing tighter, her waist reaches 42 cm in girth.
Given Dita's fondness for corsets and bandages, it's no surprise that her photos adorn the book The Enchanting Art of Japanese Bondage. Also, a photo of von Teese is on the cover of the Atrocity music album.
Often photos appear on the Web in which Dita Von Teese without makeup. And, we must pay tribute, nothing in the appearance of the burlesque star changes dramatically after the removal of the make-up.
Films and TV
The film industry and, above all, directors who shoot clips for rock bands show particular interest in Dita's appearance. In this field, the dancer has already gainedan impressive list of works: she has collaborated with Green Day, Royal Crown Revue, Merlin Manson, 30 Seconds to Mars, Monarchy and Die Antwoord. Dita also took part in recording a concert video for the famous George Michael.
Von Teese also has experience in films, but for the most part they belong to the genres of "porn" and "fetish". There is, however, the painting "The Death of Salvador Dali", which belongs to the "mainstream" genre and brought Dita an award at the Beverly Hills Film Festival as the best actress.
Dita also once appeared on television in America's Next Top Model. She conducted master classes for beginner models regarding dance and plasticity.
In 2009, Dita Von Teese visited Moscow and got into the live broadcasts of the Eurovision Song Contest, as she danced in the number of the German participating group.
Features of the look
Dita Von Teese has a special love for the era of the 40s. Therefore, her stage image is largely inspired by the fashion of those years.
Even in her youth, Dita repainted her blond in rich black. The girl took over from the actresses of the 40s. their signature “wave” styling and has been appearing on stage and in everyday life exclusively with this hairstyle for many years. Then the dancer went to the salon and tattooed her signature mole on one of her cheekbones.
Dita's wardrobe is also recognizable. It is full of vintage models and elements. In particular, the corset has become the hallmark of a burlesque star named Dita Von Teese.
Makeupdancers also do not change over the years and are subject to the same rules: a snow-white skin tone, cheekbones are barely noticeable, a clear contour of scarlet lips and black arrows along the upper eyelid.
Such fidelity to their own traditions plays into the hands of Dita, as she stands out among celebrities and always remains recognizable. Also, the dancer does not hide the fact that for the good of her own career she had to undergo plastic surgery: to increase her breasts.
Private life
Dita Von Teese, whose photos without makeup are of genuine interest to the public, has always been attractive and, probably, not deprived of male attention. However, in her youth, the dancer admits, she preferred girls, and she had experience of same-sex relationships.
However, this did not prevent her from becoming in 2005 the wife of the most provocative musician in the world - Marilyn Manson. This relationship did not last long - only two years.
Before Manson, Dita met with the lead singer of the Social Distortion group, as well as with actor Peter Sarsgaard ("Knight of the Day").
