Chad Channing was born in Santa Rosa, California (USA) on January 31, 1967. The family consisted of five people: mother Bernice, father Wayne, eldest daughter Christy, middle son Chad and youngest daughter Joelle. The sisters linked their lives one - with medicine, having received a certificate of a nurse in the United States, and the second - with naval aviation, where she began her career as an air traffic controller. But their brother chose a completely different path in life.

Chad Channing, biography and family

Wayne was a DJ, so he moved to cities where jobs were offered. Despite the fact that his father was associated with music, in his youth Chad was more interested in sports, especially football. But when the boy was 13 years old, there was an accident at school. The boy had a fracture of the left tibia. He underwent eight operations, and recovered for a long time. The young man could not attend school, so he was homeschooled. Inaction was very depressing. To support their son, his parents gave him a red bass guitar for his birthday. A few weeks laterthey could already hear Chad playing the bass lines confidently. This not only pleased the elders, but also allowed the guy himself to escape from the forced stiffness and pain.

When the cast was removed, the question arose of developing the left leg. The Channings bought a drum kit. Chad started practicing and was soon jamming with friends. After that, he put together several "garage" bands and, finally, began to play with a couple of guys from a local club. Returning to study, the guy joined the school circle and began to study musical literacy. This is how Chad Channing, a drummer, began his career.

Leaving school

Chad Channing made many important decisions in his biography. One of them is dropping out of school. According to the parents, this was not unexpected, so they supported him. After the accident, Chad missed school a lot, and the teacher's home visits were hardly a substitute for studying in the classroom. Due to the fact that he spent a lot of time in a hospital bed or at home, completely plastered, in terrible pain, if he had continued his studies, he would have graduated from school only at 20 years old. Chad was a peaceful and calm son, but filled with determination in what he wanted to do. Parents were sure that Chad would find his place in life. And they were not mistaken.

First groups

Chad played in the band Mind Circus, then together with Ben Shepherd, who later became the bass player of Soundgarden, founded Tick-Dolly-Row. Around the same time, the Nirvana team, then called Bliss, began its life. Soon a mutual friend introduced Chad to Kurt Cobain and KristNovoselic, who just needed a drummer. The musicians played several joint jam sessions and soon began to make full-fledged performances.

Road to Nirvana

The band's first single, Love Buzz, was released in June 1988, shortly after Channing joined. And the first full-fledged Bleach album, written from December 1988 to the end of January 1989, was released on January 15, 1989. It should be noted that Dale Crover performed drum parts on three tracks from the album. It's Floyd the barber, Paper cuts and Downer.

In April 1990, Nirvana recorded eight songs at Smart Studios. During the session, Kurt and Krist did not show much admiration for the drummer's work, and Chad was worried that he was not involved in the creation of the tracks. Creative differences led to Channing leaving the group by mutual agreement. His place was taken by Dave Grohl, who used some parts created by Chad when recording. And the song Polly, the version of which ended up on the first edition of the Nevermind album, was completely recorded by Channing.

After Nirvana

After leaving Nirvana, Chad formed the Fire Ants with Dan McDonald (bass), Brian (vocals) and Kevin Wood (guitar). In 1992, the band released the EP Sriped. The producer was the legendary Jack Endino. In 1998, Channing worked with MacDonald again, founding Methodist with the help of John Heard and Eric Spicer. With this line-up, the musicians released the album Cookies.

Channing later took a backseat to drums in order to realize himself as vocalist and bass player in the new Before Cars project. The group's first single was released in 2006 under the name Old Chair. The debut album Walk Back was released in 2008. It was produced by Jack Endino.

Childhood incident

When Chad was about four years old, the family traveled around the US in a pickup truck. Chad and his sisters rode in the back in the Hab. The children wanted to use the toilet, so the car was stopped at a gas station in a small town "in the middle of nowhere." After meeting with all the needs and filling up the car, mother and father waited until the children climbed into the truck and continued on their way.

After about 40 kilometers, Bernice looked through the viewing window and found that Chad was not in the trailer. After stopping the car, the parents began to question the girls, and even scared them a little, because the first thought that came to mind was that the boy had fallen out of the car somewhere on the road. But then, calming down, they realized that Chad must have stayed in town.

The car was turned around and returned to the city. Everyone searched, questioned the gas station worker, and then noticed a small figure sitting quietly on the limiter near the telephone pole. It was Mr. Chad (as his parents called him from birth, thanks to his grandparents). He sat quietly, did not cry. When asked how he felt, he only replied in a quiet, dramatic voice, "I thought you didn't need me anymore!"
