Khostinsky district is one of the four districts of the Sochi resort. It is located approximately in the middle. It is suitable for beach holidays, treatment and nature excursions. It is located between the Kudepsta River and the Vereshchaginskaya Valley. The Khosta River (Sochi) is the main river of the region.
Geographical features of the Khostinsky district
Khostinsky district is located in the foothills of the southern slope of the Main Caucasian Range. From the south it borders on the sea, and from the north - on the mountains of the Sochi National Park. It is a hilly area covered with forests and farmland. The climate is humid, maritime. Autumn and winter are rainy, while summers are relatively dry and moderately hot. In Khost it is a little hotter and drier than in Sochi. The number of sunny days in this city is as much as 280. This is more than in other points of the Sochi resort.
Precipitation increases as you move from the sea towards the mountains. Global warming is making the Sochi summer increasingly stuffy.
Nature of the area
Broad-leaved forests grow on the hills and along the river valleys: oak, hornbeam, beech, chestnut, etc. In some places there is a yew. Until recently, the area was famous for the famous Tisosamshitovaya grove, howeverin just a couple of years, the boxwood was destroyed by a dangerous parasite - the boxwood moth. In the future, there is a chance for its restoration due to the resettlement of plants resistant to this parasite, which were found in single specimens in the Caucasian Reserve.
Rest in the Khostinsky district of Sochi
Khostinsky district is more suitable for a quiet measured rest than the city of Sochi. It is not so noisy and not so dense building. More greenery and free space on the beaches. True, all this is subject to reservations, since in recent years the entire coastal strip of Sochi has been actively built up, and there have been much more people.
Khosta is ideal for beach and medical holidays. The balneological segment is especially developed here, for which there is all the necessary infrastructure. There are also good places for excursions. For example, Khosta Yew Boxwood Grove (now without boxwood) and Agur waterfalls. On the rivers Matsesta and Khosta there are springs of mineral waters. Balneological sanatoriums are being created on their basis. There is also a branch of the Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy in the Khostinsky District.
Besides a spa holiday, the area is also well suited for spending holidays with the family. Of the interesting sights, Mount Akhun, on top of which there is an observation tower, has become most famous. You can also visit the Vorontsov caves, Eagle rocks, Kalinovoye lake. There are sources of hydrogen sulfide in Matsesta.
Khosta River
This river flows exactly in the middle between the cities of Sochi and Adler. river name"Khosta" is of Caucasian origin and is translated as "boar river". Probably, there used to be a lot of wild boars. It originates from the wooded ridges of the southern macroslope of the Greater Caucasus, covered with virgin and dense mountainous Colchis forests of the Sochi National Park. Further, it flows through a valley squeezed by hills with broad-leaved forests, in which there are relict species, such as yew. The tops of the hills are used for agriculture. In its lower course, it flows past the Tisosamshitovaya grove and after another couple of kilometers it flows into the Black Sea.
If you move up the Khosta River, then behind the Tisosamshitovaya grove it is divided into two similar rivers - Mal. Khosta and Bol. Khosta, which form two similar wooded valleys, and the distance between these rivers is about 2 km. The length of the channel of the united river with the name "Khosta" is 4.5 km, and from the sources of Bolshaya Khosta - 21.5 km. The area of the river basin is 96.2 sq. km. Tortuosity is relatively weak (coefficient 1.03).
There are dolmens near the river. Not far from the mouth of Khosta, a federal highway and a railway cross.
