Gas masks are one of the most reliable means that are used for personal protection of a person. They are used both in the exercises of military personnel and employees of special services, and for the evacuation of citizens in the event of a disaster.

The sizes of gas masks, the table of which is provided for each batch of products, are very important in the correct selection and reliability of the product in the future. For the correct selection, you should determine the type of gas mask (civilian, civilian with a mask, etc.). Then the head circumference is calculated. For the most successful selection, circles are measured according to one of the following schemes:

1. The horizontal circle is added to the vertical circle. The result obtained is the key parameter of the task, how to determine the size of the gas mask. The product table in the first column contains the certified size, and in the second - the summed head circumference.

2. The second method of determining the size is recognized as simpler, but less reliable. To calculate it, you need to measureonly horizontal girth (from the back of the head and 20-30 mm above the edge of the ear).

Determining the individual size of the civilian gas mask GP-7

The main function of gas masks is to protect the human senses and respiratory system from toxic substances. This modification of PPE (personal protective equipment) is used to protect a person from radioactive substances, biological weapons, etc.

GP-7 kit consists of:

• bags;
• filter (absorbing box);
• insulation cuffs and MNU-3;
• clamping cord;
• operating instructions;
• anti-fog films;
• of the gas mask itself.

PPE is placed on the bag (shoulder required). It is made of natural fabric and has additional pockets. Waist belt included.

This tool is made in two forms. The first - with a standard set of bags and a regular mask, the second has a tube for receiving water. Despite the difference, the size table for gas masks GP 7 is identical to the table for GP 7B.

• working temperatures - from (-40) to +40 degrees;
• field of view - at least 60 degrees.

As you can see, the size chart of gas masks takes into account a head circumference tolerance of 5 mm for each girth. This gap allows you to choose the most optimal size.

Structural elements and purpose of civilian gas mask No. 5 (GP-5)

This type of protection is slightly different from earlier models. The modification of this gas mask does not contain a connecting gas tube (which is made of corrugations), but is directly connected to the filter.

Before use, remember that the Model 5 civilian gas mask was discontinued in 1989 and may therefore contain some defects.

The PPE kit of the above model consists of:

• bags;
• front part (made in two types: regular - SHM-62 and refined - SHM-62U);
• gas mask boxes;
• boxes of films.

Since the gas mask is made in the form of a mask, the circumference is measured along the vertical part of the head. The main requirement for the correct selection is the fit of the mask close to the face.

The disadvantages of this type of protection are:

• significant resistance of the filter box (significantly complicates the breathing process);
• unreliable sealing that increases pressure on the front.

Modern industrial gas masks

In addition to civilian and special gas masks, there are also industrial ones. The main objective of such funds is to protect human organs from the effects of irritants and poisonous substances in the enterprise. Gas masks for this purpose are effective even if the proportion of oxygen in a toxic environment does not exceed 17%.

The configuration of such gas masks practically does not differ from the standard configuration of civilians.

In special cases, it is necessary to use a gas mask of non-standard sizes. These sizes are for children. The measurement should be carried out using a caliper or rulerfrom the chin to the depression on the bridge of the nose.

What to consider when choosing a gas mask

Determining the size of the gas mask (the table is attached to each batch of products) is quite an important point. In addition to performing this action, it is important to pay attention to the integrity of the protective equipment before use: it should not have cracks or other mechanical damage. Glasses, as well as pipes, connecting valves must also be sealed and intact.

Important! The size table of gas masks is individual for each type and modification. It is for this reason that before use, you should carefully study the features and purpose of a particular type of gas mask. Failure to follow the instructions for use may lead to negative consequences.
