Short biography
Titov Viktor Abrosimovich was born in 1939 in Azerbaijan. The mother of the future cinematographer was Armenian, his father was Russian. In 1954, the family moved to the small homeland of Titov Sr. Victor's youth passed in Rostov-on-Don. After leaving school, he took an active part in the development of virgin lands. The beginning of the creative path in some way refers to the years of military service. It was during this period that Viktor Titov became interested in theatrical art. Before entering the Institute of Cinematography, his work was limited, of course, only to participation in amateur art activities. But it was in the army that the future director finally decided on the choice of his future profession.
Career start
Viktor Titov entered the All-Union Institute of Cinematography and became one of Mikhail Romm's students. But soon the famous Soviet director was removed from teaching. Romma replacedAlexander Stoller.
Titov's debut work was the film "The Soldier and the Queen". Then there was a production of the film-opera "The Love for Three Oranges". Eminent filmmakers did not approve of this work. A flurry of angry criticism fell upon the creator of the film, based on Prokofiev's opera. But despite the disgrace, many wonderful paintings were later created by Viktor Titov.

The hero of this article has created more than ten scripts and about twenty films. Viktor Titov is a director who shot one of the most famous Soviet films. And in the last years of his life he was actively working. But most of the projects, unfortunately, could not be completed. In the nineties, as you know, there was not enough funding. On domestic screens there were more often films representing a parody of Western cinema. For real art, the last decade of the last century was an unfavorable period.

Soldier and Queen
This short film was created based on the work of Andrey Platonov. It tells about a capricious queen who, angry with a soldier, gave him a cruel and humiliating punishment. The unfortunate must endure beatings for a year. The hero of the film is trying in every possible way to avoid punishment. And, fortunately,discovers that the missus of the shoemaker has an amazing outward resemblance to the princess. The main character of the picture makes a substitution. The princess finds herself in a modest dwelling of a craftsman. The shoemaker's wife is in luxurious royal mansions.
The roles in Titov's debut film were played by Oleg Dal and Ekaterina Vasilyeva.
Hello, I'm your aunt
Like other people of art, Titov often remained without work. During one of these forced holidays, he received an offer to make a film based on the work of the English playwright Brandon Thomas. An application for a film adaptation of Gorky's work, which the director filed shortly thereafter, was rejected. Therefore, he gladly accepted the offer to make a comedy film, which became the pinnacle of his work.
Grotesqueness, satire are the features of the picture created by Titov. In addition, he managed to pick up a brilliant ensemble cast. Such outstanding artists as Oleg Tabakov, Vladimir Etush auditioned for the main role. But the director approved Alexander Kalyagin, little known at that time.
The script for this film was also written by Titov. He is the author of many famous replicas. For example, phrases about Brazil - a country where many, many wild monkeys are transported from. In the original, the hero did not say such words.
Other movies
Years after the premiere of the famous comedy, the series "Open Book" was released. The film is based on the work of Veniamin Kaverin and is dedicated to the work of Soviet microbiologists, who for the first time receivedsamples of penicillin. The roles were played by Iya Savvina, Georgy Taratorkin, Oleg Yankovsky and other famous actors.
In 1982, the lyrical comedy "Vacation at your own expense" was created, in which Olga Melikhova and Igor Kostolevsky played the main roles. The secondary but colorful heroine was played by Lyudmila Gurchenko.

Viktor Titov wrote ten dramatic works. The most famous paintings present in his filmography were shot according to scripts that he wrote himself or in collaboration with other filmmakers. These films include the above, as well as the films "Dinara", "The Duran Curse", "Child".
For his brilliant paintings, Viktor Titov was awarded only one award, received during the festival in Vyborg in 1999.
In recent years, the director was seriously ill. The creator of Hello, I'm Your Aunt passed away in 2000.
