In the Soviet period, Medved carbines were rare, so it was considered a great success to become the owner of this model. The weapon was intended for shooting large animals - it is precisely because of its effectiveness in campaigns against a bear that hunters especially appreciate it. Today, representatives of this series are quite common in Russia and, as a rule, there are no problems with the purchase.

Technical parameters

Largely due to the operational characteristics, the IzhMash developers have achieved optimal performance indicators, which the Medved self-loading carbine has in almost all versions. The main technical data is as follows:

  • barrel with four grooves is 55 cm long;
  • carabiner length - 111 cm;
  • minimum weight without scope and mount is 3.3kg;
  • 3-round magazine capacity (staggered or in-line arrangement), features an integral design;
  • quadruple optical sight or open sight - installation is done using a special bracket.

Depending on the version, these data may differ, but in the standard carbine "Bear" hasexactly these characteristics. Now you can take a closer look at weapon modifications.

Modification SOK 9

The version has a 9 mm caliber and is designed for hunting cartridges with parameters of 9x53 mm - a soft-nosed bullet with a mass of 15 gr is used. The IzhMash plant launched production of this version in 1965

The length of the barrel corresponds to the standard model - 55 cm. Most of the elements have anti-corrosion treatment, and the bolt, chamber, bore, piston with frame and gas tube are provided with chrome plating.

Auto-reloading is a key feature that distinguishes the hunting carbine "Bear" from the general range of models of this type. It is produced thanks to powder gases, which are discharged from the barrel into a special chamber. As the gas expands, pressure is generated, which acts on the piston. The latter, in turn, throws the frame back, causing the spring to compress as a result. Thus, the bolt frame returns with a new cartridge to the front position.

The trigger system includes a special spring (combat version) and a rotating carbine trigger. At the moment of impact on the trigger, the trigger hits the striker, which leads to the activation of the igniter. The process of charging the spring is carried out when the shutter returns to the main position.

Version "Bear 2"

This modification generally repeats the characteristics of the first versions - this is a bear hunting carbine with a 9-mm caliber chambered forthe same parameters 9x53 mm and a 15-gram bullet. Moreover, its release was established around the same years. The Medved 2 system differs from its predecessor by a detachable 3-round magazine. When developing this carbine, for the first time in the series, a system of cartridges arrangement in rows was used. This is one of the significant parameters that distinguish the first generations of weapons from more modern ones. The package includes three stores, as well as an optical sight. By the way, the set is not limited to four-fold optics - six-fold options are also offered.

Modification "Bear 3"

This specification has a caliber with a standard size of 7.62 mm and provides for the use of cartridges 7.62x51 (mostly domestic copies are suitable) with a bullet of 9.7 grams. Small-scale production of this version began in 1976. Since the launch of the modification, serious discrepancies with the standard version followed, since the carbine "Bear" 9 mm provided for the use of other cartridges by size.

The model added a little weight (3.4 kg) and got a detachable 4-round magazine (in-line). The developers also offer the introduction of a flash hider on special order - it acts as a replacement for the muzzle brake. With regard to other parameters, the carbine system remained the same, retaining the latest developments - for example, the ability to use a six-fold sight.

Version "Bear 4"

Last modifiedfamily, which transferred almost all the innovations for the carbine "Bear 3". However, a number of parameters have been adjusted. The four-round magazine, which provides for a staggered arrangement, is perhaps the main difference between the Bear 4 model. The carbine in this form was certified in 2001 and is currently a very common tool in the hands of hunters.

Features of the Bears

The carbine has many design features that should be considered as advantages. In particular, a simple device ensures the safety and reliability of weapons, and a small mass makes it more comfortable to use. Also, in the eyes of hunters, accuracy, which distinguishes the hunting carbine "Bear", and appearance are valued. It has a model and a number of other advantages, including:

  • Decreased recoil effect. To do this, the IzhMash developers provided the stock with a butt pad made of a softening rubber base.
  • Minimizing the risk of an unintentional shot - the action of the fuse, which is equipped with a carbine "Bear", is calculated directly on the sear.
  • To facilitate the cleaning process, the trigger system is separated into a special box.
  • There are several divisions for aimed shooting with a maximum distance of 300 m.
  • The hunter has the opportunity to use an open sight even if the optics are not removed - this allows a special bracket.
  • Strip for the barrel and stock are presentedhigh-strength woods.

Nuances of compatibility with cartridges

The latest versions of the carbine do not use rifle cartridges 7, 62 mm, hunting specimens 7, 62x53, imported models 7, 62x51, as well as products of the foreign Winchester 308 line. Their parameters simply do not match the data of the caliber.

Foreign series Win, which covers size 7, 62x51, also does not meet the requirements. The pressure of the gases in the barrel, designed for such cartridges, assumes about 3700 kgf / cm2, while the Russian carbine "Bear" is combined with cartridges of the same size, providing an average pressure of up to 3300 kgf /cm2.

Besides this, there are obstacles in compatibility with heavy foreign-made bullets. These include Frankonia Jagd products. Since Winchester 308 cartridges are designed for use in combined and magazine weapons, their use in the Bear carbine may cause a delay in the operation of automation. It is important to remember here that the domestic model is self-loading, which causes limitations.

Disassembly process

All rifles of the family have the same disassembly procedure. You should start by separating the magazine, after which you need to set the shutter to the rear position. Next, the barrel box is removed, and the return device is removed immediately with the liner. The frame is removed from the box, from which, in turn, is removedshutter.

Last of all, the trigger system bear 4 is removed. The carbine must be periodically inspected for the serviceability of all elements. In this regard, the gas outlet device is also disassembled.

To remove the ramrod, you need to move its head down - this can be done by turning the lock flag in the opposite direction. There is a special latch on the gas tube - you need to press it and remove the element completely. The forearm ring moves forward, after which the "Bear" carbine will allow you to detach the lining for the barrel. Having moved the pusher to the maximum stop, it is necessary to remove its end from the piston niche. Then it is removed with a spring. The piston is removed from the gas pipe. After pressing the corresponding latch, the tube itself also unscrews. By simple manipulations with the stock screw, the stock is also easily separated.

Reviews

Opinions of direct users about the carbine, despite the individual nature of the application in each case, converge on common points. Positive ratings mention the reliability and stability that the Medved carbine possesses. Reviews also note lethal power, which, however, also affects the quality of meat. Nevertheless, even at long distances and with medium flatness, the model reaches and effectively “knocks down” the beast.

Almost all complaints relate to the ease of use of the carbine, but even then, only in some aspects. For example, a weak fuse and an integral design are noted.shop. On the other hand, many praised the Bear for its minimal recoil, quality materials, and thoughtful trigger mechanism, which contributes to comfort during the hunt.
