The "Moose" carbine is a light rifle. The barrel of such a weapon is shortened. The word "carbine" could come from Arabic, Turkish or French. The first person to create it is the master Zolner Gaspard. Carabiners are service, hunting, combat or self-defense.

Under the name of the carbine "Moose" should be understood a whole line of weapons for hunting. Such weapons were actively used already in the middle of the twentieth century by Soviet hunters. With him went to large and medium game, in modern hunting this tool is still used.

For the most common and popular modifications of the carbine, cartridges with a caliber of 7, 62 are used. There are also options designed for more powerful cartridges, they can be both foreign and Russian-made.

Cartridges are located in the store in the amount of five pieces. In the classic model, the Los carbine is equipped with an integral box magazine. It is hidden in the weapon itself, and modern variations of carbines have detachable and convenient magazines. The cartridges in them are placed in a checkerboard pattern.

Sight

Carabiner "Moose" collects the following reviews about the sight: the sight is made open at the gun, its functions and position make it possible to shoot by installing an additional optical sight. Also, the sight device allows you to hit targets at a distance of up to five hundred meters. On the barrel itself are the rear sight and front sight, which are integraldesign with a device strap for the sight. The bar has marks containing numerical values from one to five. These data correspond to positions from one hundred meters to five hundred. If necessary, it is possible to set a specific position using a moving collar.

There is a modification of the carbine with a mechanical sight, for a position of up to three hundred meters.

History of occurrence

Quality hunting weapons have always been in high demand in Russia. Technical innovations and improvements in the military industry have stimulated the development of professional weapons for professional hunting.

But back in the early twentieth century, hunters were forced to use obsolete specimens, these guns did not fully correspond to the tasks set, did not fit the dimensions and other characteristics for high-quality hunting.

For example, Berdan's rifle had the necessary cartridge power reserve, which could crush a large animal that comes across among Russian forests. The bullet used, 4, 2-line, met the requiredparameters.

But the rifle, being a single-shot, was clumsy, too heavy, and exceeded a comfortable length. It was not possible to shoot accurately and quickly from it, and this is important in hunting conditions. Mosin's three-line weapon, or rather a rifle, which was highly valued at that time, was quick-firing, but also not suitable for regular and professional use for fishing purposes.

These rifles tried to remake, change their arrangement and modification, but the results did not suit the engineers. The cost immediately began to rise, and production turned out to be unprofitable. There was an attempt to develop a carbine and promote it to the masses from V. E. Markevich. He was a good specialist in the field of weapons. Markevich took the Mosin rifle as a basis and used the cartridge 7, 62, but his proposal was not successful, and such a small, variation gun was not used.

Much later, in the late sixties, Blum M. N. introduced a carbine, the model of which was called B-9. This weapon was supposed to shoot special bullets, with a caliber of 9, 3x64. The bullets were also designed by Bloom. The carbine struck with its power, but also could not get on the conveyor.

Prototype

The true predecessor of the Los carbine turned out to be the NK-8, 2 - a carbine that was developed on the basis of the Mosin gun. NK-8, 2 became the owner of a flangeless cartridge. The low speed of the bullet became an obstacle to propagation, but its design served as a prototype for future professional hunting weapons.

Izhmash began to produce NK-8, 2 in 1965. Thisthe modification was for a cartridge with an increased bullet speed. The carbine was intended for a caliber of 9, 3x66 millimeters, and then was converted to a more severe and powerful cartridge created by Blum. The carbine, made for caliber 9, 3x53, became known as "Moose", more precisely "Moose-9".

The hunting carbine "Los-7" appeared a little later, it was accompanied by bullets of caliber 7, 62x51A. In the early nineties, a modification saw the light, sharpened under the NATO Western cartridge 7, 62x51M 308 Win. The entire linear, which makes up the Los family of carbines, has gained immense popularity among hunters in Russia. Particularly valuable parameters are reliability and accuracy at a relatively low cost.

Modifications

Moose hunting carbine varies due to different cartridges. There are also versions sharpened for Western bullets. The main existing versions of "Moose":

"Moose-1" - this type has been produced since 1962 and was intended for a 9x53 mm cartridge. Weapons were produced until 1976.

Carbine "Los-4" - this type of gun is made for cartridge 7, 62x51 mm. The release lasted from 1977 until the early nineties. One of the most common types of carbine.

"Los-7" is a fairly new version designed for caliber 7, 62x51 mm. This cartridge is compatible with NATO standards.

Carbine "Moose 7-1" - repeats the previous model, but has a removable magazine, production started in the nineties.

"Los-8" - designed for the power of a cartridge of caliber 9, 3x64millimeters.

"Moose-9-1" (KO-9-1) is also a modification for 9, 3x64 mm.

"Los-9-2" - model for rifle cartridge 7, 62x63 mm.

Rifled carbine "Los-9-3" - new modification for western rifle-type cartridge 7x65 millimeters.

Features

Hunting carbine "Moose" reviews about the features collects the following: carbines are used either in combination with rifle-type cartridges, which have the property of a heap hit, which allows you to confidently shoot from a distance of about three hundred meters, or powerful cartridges that will stop the largest and a ferocious animal in the Russian forest.

Flaws

Carabiner "Moose" collects feedback on the shortcomings of the following: a removable magazine may be of poor quality, with plastic parts. Sometimes the magazine falls out or moves away a little, which makes it difficult for the hunter to react to the fact that the supply of ammunition to the barrel has ended.

The barrels are also poorly processed, there is jamming and uneven shutter operation.

It is precisely with fine-tuning that some owners cannot cope. A serious difficulty is the tight advancement of the shutter, and especially when opening. This is due to poor-quality and insufficient processing of the kinematic duet "bevel of the bolt stem and impact protrusion". There is also low-quality processing or even broken geometry at the base of the bolt handle and receiver copier. When the bolt handle is directed upward, a huge force is created on the listed components and theirsurfaces. In addition, everything is aggravated by defects in poor processing of the barrel bore. Of course, under-processing is frustrating and annoying for hunters, but given the low cost, don't expect any perfect settings.

Specialists and amateurs recommend dealing with this type of trouble by careful grinding and, of course, polishing. All contact parts and surfaces of the bolt and barrel box should be subjected to these influences. To understand where there are roughness, you need to carefully understand the mechanism and design as a whole. After the grinding, lubricating and polishing work, when all the shortcomings are eliminated, the weapon will please a real hunter and will serve for many years.
