In the south-eastern part of Western Siberia, there is an area that is second only to Yakutia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory in its area. The harsh climate, due to which most of the territory is assigned to the regions of the Far North, does not allow it to be equipped, and only the central part and the south are inhabited by residents.

Tyumen region: history

The region was formed in 1944 by separating cities and towns from the Omsk and Kurgan regions. However, the first cities of the Tyumen region, or rather settlements, appeared in the 13-16th centuries on the Tyumenka River.

In 1586, the construction of two fortresses began, which meant the creation of the Russian Tyumen prison. A year later, Tobolsk was founded, and in 1708 it was appointed the administrative center of the Siberian province, which in 1796 was transformed into the Tobolsk province. Since 1920, the Tobolsk province was officially renamed Tyumen.

What can be said about the question that interests us? Today, the cities of the Tyumen region are 22 districts and 5 urban districts, the capital of the region is Tyumen. In addition to such large cities as Tobolsk, Ishim, Yalutorovsk, wherethe population is more than 40 thousand people, the structure also includes urban-type settlements, where the number of inhabitants does not exceed 10 thousand. But they also have their own important economic importance (Abatsky, Vagay, Lesnoy, etc.)

A variety of peoples live on the territory of the Tyumen region. The majority are Russians, Tatars and Ukrainians. Local peoples such as the Nenets, Khanty and Chuvash are also represented.

Economy, infrastructure and culture

The main cities of the Tyumen region are the main sources of its development. Many people know that the region is rich in minerals, due to which it is one of the most “prosperous” and ranks first in industrial production. In particular, the fuel industry accounts for more than 80% of all industrial production.

In addition to mining, there are machine-building enterprises in the region: tractor trailers, oil refining equipment, geological exploration equipment. The chemical, woodworking and logging industries are also well developed.

Despite the fact that most of the region belongs to the Far North, in a small area they are engaged in agriculture, growing potatoes, grain, and animal feed. In addition to growing plants, they are engaged in cattle and dairy production.

The Tyumen region is rich in cultural objects, one has only to remember that Grigory Rasputin was born here and spent his last days with the family of Nicholas II.

Main cities of the region: Tyumen, Tobolsk, Yalutorovsk

Where the name "Tyumen" came from is not exactly known. Some argue that from the Tatars who once seized the territory, others say that from the Bashkir word "tumende", which means "below", and still others believe that the name was taken from the old Chingi-Tura, which meant "city on way.”

Today Tyumen is a developed city with a population of 720 thousand people, where the majority of the population are Russians. The local people also live - Mansi, but everyone is called Tyumen.

The industry and infrastructure are developed here, good transport interchange (there are 2 airports, a railway station and major roads).

Other cities of the Tyumen region play an important role in the development of the economy.

Tobolsk, as described above, was once the capital of the province and today is one of the largest cities in the region with a population of 98 thousand people. The fuel and energy complex is well developed, with about 6 enterprises associated with oil and gas pipelines, as well as machine-building enterprises, the production of building materials, and art crafts are developed (factory of art products, restoration workshops, school of icon painting)

Yalutorovsk is a city built in 1659 as a prison and settlement on the banks of the Tobol River. Today it is one of the five significant cities, where about 40 thousand people live. It is an industrial center where the main area of activitythe food industry is considered (85% of manufactured products), the construction industry, wood processing, metalworking industry are also developed.

City of Ishim, Tyumen region

Another large city in the region is Ishim, with a population of 65,000 people. The date of foundation is considered to be 1670, when Korkina Sloboda was formed as a venue for annual fairs. However, this territory became a permanent place of residence for many, gradually grew and already in 1782 became a city. It is interesting that the city and the river in the Tyumen region began to bear the same name because of the location - Ishim.

Like most cities in the region, Ishim today is an industrial center with a machine-building plant, a mechanical plant, oil pipeline management, a shoe and clothing factory, as well as factories and food processing plants.

In terms of infrastructure, there are schools and secondary schools, hospitals, museums and cultural centers.
