Origin story

Zavidovsky Reserve began to form even before the 1917 revolution. At that time, the Konstantinovsky hunting circle was its tenant. Then he was not far from the village of Kozlovo. These lands were very popular among Moscowhunters. One of these owners of a hunting dacha was a we althy famous man Savva Morozov. At the beginning of the 20th century, Vladimir Lenin liked to hunt in this park. In a village called Shosha, the house where he stayed is still preserved. After the end of the civil war, hunting military societies appeared on Zavidovo land. They were organized by commissars and commanders of the Red Army.

Time for the transformation of lands and farms

Two years later, namely, in 1931, the Zavidovsky Reserve received the status of a military-hunting economy already officially. Ten years later, in the winter of 1941, the front line passed through the borders of Zavidovo. Thus, the war caused great damage to our lands. The reserve was restored again. In August 1951, on the orders of Joseph Stalin, the farm had to be liquidated. Everything that belonged to the land of Zavidovo was transferred to the ownership of the Kozlovsky cloth factory. The territory and borders of the park remained without close attention and control for several years, so poachers began to exterminate game. After Stalin passed away in 1953, the leaders of our state began to restore the Zavidovo scientific and experimental farm again. Nikita Khrushchev decided to create several demonstration farms. So, in 1971, the national park received the status of a state reserve of the USSR.
